Shooting At The 1964 Summer Olympics – Men's 25 Metre Rapid Fire Pistol
The men's ISSF 25 meter rapid fire pistol was a shooting sports event held as part of the Shooting at the 1964 Summer Olympics programme. It was the 12th appearance of the event. The competition was held on 19 October 1964 at the Camp Asaka shooting ranges in Tokyo. 53 shooters from 34 nations competed. Nations had been limited to two shooters each since the 1952 Games. The event was won by Pentti Linnosvuo of Finland, the nation's first victory in the event. Linnosvuo was the fourth man to win multiple medals in the event, adding to his 1960 silver; it was his fourth straight Games finishing in the top 5 of the event. Ion Tripșa of Romania took silver, putting that nation back on the podium after a one-Games absence. Czechoslovakia's first rapid fire pistol medal came in the form of Lubomír Nácovský's bronze. Camp Asaka
Camp Asaka is a base of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. It lies in four municipalities: Nerima, Tokyo; Asaka, Saitama; Wako, Saitama; and Niiza, Saitama. It serves as the headquarters of the Eastern Army. The camp was originally the site of a golf course from 1930 to 1940. It served as the site of the Imperial Japanese Army Junior Military Academy from 1941 to 1945, and as a United States Army camp (South Camp Drake) from 1945 to 1960, during which time it housed part of the 1st Cavalry Division. The Asaka Shooting Range was a firing range constructed on the site for the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, and hosted pistol and rifle shooting and the shooting part of the modern pentathlon. Józef Zapędzki
Józef Zapędzki (11 March 1929 – 15 February 2022) was a Polish sport shooter. He competed at five consecutive Olympics from 1964 to 1980 in 25 m rapid fire pistol and won two gold medals, in 1968 and 1972. He is one of three shooters to have successfully defended the men's 25 m rapid fire pistol Olympic title. He is a 23-time Polish Champion. Marcel Roșca
Marcel Roșca (; born 18 October 1943) is a retired Romanian pistol shooter. He competed in the individual 25 m rapid-fire event at the 1964 (Tokyo) and 1968 (Mexico) Olympics and won a silver medal in 1968, placing sixth at the former. He also won three team medals at the World Championships in 1966, 1970, and 1974. In 1969 he won the silver medal at the European Championships in Plzen, Czechoslovakia, at 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men. Biography Roșca was born in a family of singers and always wanted to become one. In 1968, he graduated from the Theatrical Arts Academy, but instead of pursuing a theatrical career, he became chief officer of the Traffic Division of the Bucharest Police. In 1970, he was a winner of the X Factor TV show "Star without name". After that he sang as a bass with the Romanian National Opera before defecting to West Germany in 1984.
