Shiv Nadar University
Shiv Nadar University (SNU)https://snu.edu.in/news/newsroom/conferred-title-shiv-nadar-institution-eminence is a private research university located on NH-91 near Dadri in Uttar Pradesh, India. SNU is regarded as Institution of Eminence by the University Grants Commission. It was founded in 2011 as part of a series of initiatives launched by the Shiv Nadar Foundation, a private philanthropic foundation founded by Shiv Nadar, the founder and chairman of HCL. History The University was set up in 2011 across 286 acres. Nikhil Sinha was appointed as the founding Vice-Chancellor of the University before Rupamanjari Ghosh took charge as the second Vice-Chancellor of the university on 1 February 2016. On completion of her second term, she handed over charge to Dr. Ananya Mukherjee on 31 January 2022. Institutes of Eminence (IoE) is a recognition scheme for higher education institutes in India, set by the University Grants Commission in 2017. The plan encompasses twenty institutions, 12 of which have already been declared Institutes of Eminence . Recognised institutes are granted more autonomy, both administratively (e.g. setting fees) and academically, are allowed to open offshore campuses, and will enjoy better collaboration opportunities with global universities. National Institutional Ranking Framework
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is a methodology adopted by the Ministry of Education (India), Ministry of Education, Government of India, to rank institutions of higher education in India. The Framework was approved by the MHRD and launched by Minister of Human Resource Development on 29 September 2015. Depending on their areas of operation, institutions have been ranked under 11 different categories – overall, university, colleges, engineering, management, pharmacy, law, medical, architecture, dental and research. The Framework uses several parameters for ranking purposes like resources, research, and stakeholder perception. These parameters have been grouped into five clusters and these clusters were assigned certain weightages. The weightages depend on the type of institution. Rupamanjari Ghosh was the second Vice-Chancellor (1 February 2016 - 31 January 2022) of Shiv Nadar University, Uttar Pradesh, India. She is also the former founding Director of School of Natural Sciences and founding Dean of Research & Graduate Studies at Shiv Nadar University, and a former Professor of physics and Dean at the School of Physical Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
