The Shire of Sherwood is a former local government area of Queensland, Australia, located in south-western Brisbane in and around the suburb of Sherwood. History On 11 November 1879, the Yeerongpilly Division was created as one of 74 divisions within Queensland under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879''. On 16 October 1886, parts of Yeerongpilly Division were excised to create Stephens Division (later Shire of Stephens). On 24 January 1891, further parts of Yeerongpilly Division were excised to create Sherwood Division (later Shire of Sherwood). With the passage of the ''Local Authorities Act 1902'', Sherwood became a Shire on 31 March 1903. On 1 October 1925, the Shire of Sherwood was amalgamated into the City of Brisbane. The Old Windmill, Brisbane
The Old Windmill is a heritage-listed tower mill in Observatory Park adjacent to Wickham Park at 226 Wickham Terrace, Spring Hill, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was built in the 1820s by convict labour in the Moreton Bay penal settlement and is the oldest surviving building in Queensland. It is also known as Brisbane Observatory and Windmill Tower. Sandstone is a clastic sedimentary rock composed mainly of sand-sized (0.0625 to 2 mm) silicate grains. Sandstones comprise about 20–25% of all sedimentary rocks. Corinda Railway Station
Corinda railway station is located on the Main line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the Brisbane suburb of Corinda. History Corinda station opened in 1875 as South Brisbane Junction, being renamed Corinda in 1888. In 1884, a branch line was built from Corinda to the South Brisbane wharves. The branch line is now known as the Corinda-Yeerongpilly line. The station was rebuilt in 1960 as part of the quadruplication of the line from Roma Street. Bora is an initiation ceremony of the Aboriginal people of Eastern Australia. The word "bora" also refers to the site on which the initiation is performed. At such a site, boys, having reached puberty, achieve the status of men. The initiation ceremony differs from Aboriginal culture to culture, but often, at a physical level, involved scarification, circumcision, subincision and, in some regions, also the removal of a tooth. During the rites, the youths who were to be initiated were taught traditional sacred songs, the secrets of the tribe's religious visions, dances, and traditional lore.
