The Shire of Shepparton was a local government area in the Goulburn Valley region, about north of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1884 until 1994. From 1927 onwards, Shepparton itself was managed by a separate entity, ultimately known as the City of Shepparton. History Shepparton was once part of the vast Echuca Road District, which was formed in 1864 and became a shire in 1871, extended along the south bank of the Murray River, from Mount Hope Creek in the west, to the Ovens River in the east. The Shire of Shepparton was incorporated on 30 May 1879. The southeastern section containing Shepparton itself split away on 18 April 1884, and was initially known as the Shire of South Shepparton. Goulburn Valley
The Goulburn Valley is a sub-region, part of the Hume region of the Australian state of Victoria. The sub-region consists of those areas in the catchment of the Goulburn River and other nearby streams, and is part of the Murray-Darling Basin. The Goulburn Valley is bordered on the south by the Great Dividing Range and to the north by the Murray River, the state border with New South Wales. The sub-region is one of Australia's most productive and intensively farmed areas and is predominantly irrigated. The Ovens River, a perennial river of the north-east Murray catchment, part of the Murray-Darling basin, is located in the alpine and Hume regions of the Australian state of Victoria. Location and features Formed by the confluence of the East and West Branches of the river, the Ovens River rises in the Victorian Alps, at the settlement of Harrietville, sourced by runoff from high slopes located within the Alpine National Park and the Mount Buffalo National Park. Grahamvale is a small town in Victoria, Australia that encompasses the outer-most eastern regions of the city of Shepparton. At the 2021 census, Grahamvale had a population of 685. The region includes a mix of industrial, grazing and orchard land as well as several highly sought after housing estates. The most notable of these estates is Dobson Estate which comprises approximately 200 residences spread over approximately 300 acres (121 hectares or 4056 sq. metres). Congupna is a town in the Goulburn Valley region of Victoria, Australia. The town is in the City of Greater Shepparton local government area, north of the state capital, Melbourne and north of the regional centre of Shepparton. At the 2021 census, Congupna had a population of 620. History Congupna, known also by the name ''Koongoopna'', was first established about 8 km north of its present location. Congupna Post Office opened there on 1 December 1881, was renamed Congupna Township around 1909 and closed in 1953.
