The Shire of Nanango was a local government area located in the South Burnett region of Queensland, Australia, about northwest of the capital, Brisbane. The Shire covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1879 until 2008, when it amalgamated with several other councils in the South Burnett area to become the South Burnett Regional Council. History * Barambah Division was created on 11 November 1879 as one of 74 divisions around Queensland under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879'' with a population of 1539. On 23 February 1882, there was a realignment of boundaries between Wambo Division and Barambah Division, involving subdivision 3 of Wambo Division and subdivisions 1 and 2 of Barambah Division. Maidenwell, Queensland
Maidenwell is a rural town and locality in the South Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Maidenwell had a population of 199 people. History Pioneer settler John King dug the first well in the district, hence the name ''Maidenwell''. Maidenwell Post Office opened in 1906 (a receiving office named Pinpinbugie had been open from 1900) and closed in 1978. Peron State School opened on 1 April 1914. In 1934, it was moved to the foot of the Maidenwell Range and was then known as Maidenwell State School. It closed on 18 March 1938. In 1939,it was relocated to south of the town of Maidenwell, reopening there on 26 March 1940, closed on 20 September 1942, and reopened on 23 August 1943. Bunya Mountains
The Bunya Mountains are a distinctive set of peaks forming an isolated section of the Great Dividing Range in southern Queensland. The mountain range forms the northern edge of the Darling Downs in the locality also called Bunya Mountains near Bell and Dalby. The mountains are south of Kingaroy and just to the south west of Nanango. The range is the remains of a shield volcano which was built from numerous basalt lava flows about 23-24 million years ago. In 2009 as part of the Q150 celebrations, the Bunya Mountains was announced as one of the Q150 Icons of Queensland for its role as a "Natural attraction". Blackbutt is a rural town and locality in the South Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Blackbutt had a population of 836 people. Geography The town is located on the D'Aguilar Highway, in the South Burnett local government area, north-west of the state capital, Brisbane. Blackbutt lies within the Cooyar Creek catchment, tributary of the Brisbane River, which rises in the Bunya Mountains to the west. History European settlement in the Blackbutt area began in 1842, when the Scott family established Taromeo Station.
