The Shire of Gayndah was a local government area located in the northern catchment of the Burnett River, Queensland, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed as a local government area from 1866 until 2008, when it amalgamated with several other shires to form the North Burnett Region. Major activities in the shire included citrus production, beef and timber. History The first local government in the area was the Borough of Gayndah, serving the town of Gayndah, which was created on 28 November 1866 under the ''Municipal Corporations Act 1864''. Under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879'', the Rawbelle Division was created on 11 November 1879 to serve the surrounding rural area with a population of 755. The headquarters of the Rawbelle Division was in the town of Gayndah and the first meeting of the divisional board was held on 29 March 1880 and the first elected chairman was Berkeley Moreton, who would later inherit the title Earl of Ducie. Earl Of Ducie
Earl of Ducie is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1837 for Thomas Reynolds Moreton, 4th Baron Ducie. The family descends from Edward Moreton (17th century), who married Elizabeth, daughter of Robert Ducie. Their son Matthew Ducie Moreton represented Gloucestershire in the House of Commons. In 1720 he was raised to the Peerage of Great Britain as Baron Ducie de Moreton, in the County of Stafford. He was succeeded by his son, the second Baron. He was also a Member of Parliament and served as Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire. In 1763 he was created Baron Ducie, of Tortworth in the County of Gloucester, with remainder to the sons of his sister Elizabeth Reynolds. This title was also in the Peerage of Great Britain. On his death in 1770 the barony of 1720 became extinct. He was succeeded in the barony of 1763 according to the special remainder by his nephew, the second Baron. Ideraway is a rural town and locality in the North Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Ideraway had a population of 38 people. Geography The Burnett River forms the south-eastern boundary, while Reid Creek forms the western boundary. The Burnett Highway passes through the south-western corner. The town is located in the south-east of the locality and most of the housing is within the town. The predominant land use is grazing on native vegetation in the south of the locality with crop growing more in the north of the locality. History The town's name was derived from the name of a pastoral run, leased from 1848 by James B. Reid. Reid acquired the leases of the six stations of sheep country which comprised Ideraway over a period of ten years. Gooroolba is a rural locality in the North Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Gooroolba had a population of 12 people. Geography Gooroolba is in the Wide Bay–Burnett region north of the state capital Brisbane. History The town's name is an abbreviation of the parish name of Gooroolballin, in turn named after the "Gooroolballan" sheep station. Gooroolballan station was established by at least 1857. The extension of the Degilbo to Wetheron in 1906 brought the railway to Gooroolba. A tender was let for construction of a state school in the town in 1910. Gooroolba Post Office opened by June 1910 (a receiving office had been open from 1907) and closed in 1973. Gooroolba State School opened on 18 April 1911. It closed in 1964. Byrnestown is a rural locality in the North Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Byrnestown had a population of 34 people. The town was established as one of the first communes in Queensland. History In response to the idea of communes promulgated by utopian William Lane, in 1893 the Queensland Government legislated the ''Queensland Co-operative Communities Land Settlement Act'' to allow a group of 30 or more men and their families to establish a commune in Queensland. This led to many groups forming to pursue the goal of establishing a commune; one of these groups called themselves ''Byrnestown'' after the then Queensland Attorney-General Thomas Joseph Byrnes (who became Premier of Queensland in 1898). In late 1893, sites near Roma were deemed too far from the town. Binjour is a rural locality in the North Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Binjour had a population of 98 people. Geography Binjour is in the Wide Bay-Burnett region on the Burnett Highway by road north of the state capital, Brisbane. The Binjour Range Rest Area, at the top of the range, is near the southern end of the Binjour Plateau. Gurgeena is near the northern end of the plateau. The Shire of Monto was a local government area in the northern catchment of the Burnett River, Queensland, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed as a local government area from 1932 until 2008, when it amalgamated with several other shires to form the North Burnett Region. History The Monto district came into being as part of a Land Development Scheme for returning soldiers. The first town buildings were erected in 1926, followed by the Butter Factory in 1927. In July 1931 the railway was officially opened and on 3 March 1932, the Shire of Monto was proclaimed on land previously administered by the Shires of Eidsvold and Mundubbera. The town of Monto also briefly served as the administrative centre of Eidsvold.
