The Shire of Dalrymple was a local government area located in North Queensland, Australia, and surrounded but did not include the town of Charters Towers, at which its council and administrative centre was based. It covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1879 until 2008, when it amalgamated with the separate City of Charters Towers to form the Charters Towers Region. History Dalrymple Division was created on 11 November 1879 as one of 74 divisions around Queensland under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879'' with a population of 4494. The name ''Dalrymple'' is believed to honour George Elphinstone Dalrymple, an early explorer of the region. On 2 July 1902, the No. 1 subdivision of Dalrymple Division was excised to create a separate Shire of Queenton. With the passage of the ''Local Authorities Act 1902'', Dalrymple Division became the Shire of Dalrymple on 31 March 1903. Greenvale is a rural town and locality in the Charters Towers Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Greenvale had a population of 232 people. Geography Greenvale is a nickel mining area, approximately northwest of Townsville. Other metal ores are also extracted there. Greenvale lies on the banks of the Burdekin River and on the Gregory Highway. A good sealed road crosses the hills over to Townsville. Campaspe is a rural locality in the Charters Towers Region, Queensland, Australia. In the Campaspe had a population of 123 people. Balfes Creek is a very small town within the locality. History The former railway station of Balfes Creek, on the Great Northern railway line, which was opened in 1884, was in the locality. A crossing loop is located in the immediate vicinity. In 1942 work started on the construction of an airfield at Balfes Creek for defence purposes. The Shire of Ravenswood was a local government area located in North Queensland, Australia. Its administrative centre was in Ravenswood. History Ravenswood Division was created on 11 November 1879 as one of 74 divisions around Queensland under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879'' with a population of 1412. On 18 January 1882, the subdivisions were abolished (meaning all of board members would be elected by all residents rather than having representatives from different parts of the division). With the passage of the ''Local Authorities Act 1902'', the Ravenswood Division became the Shire of Ravenswood on 31 March 1903. However, with the decline in Ravenwood's population after World War I, it became increasingly financially unviable to have a separate local government authority.
