Hebrew (; ; ) is a Northwest Semitic language of the Afroasiatic language family. Historically, it is one of the spoken languages of the Israelites and their longest-surviving descendants, the Jews and Samaritans. It was largely preserved throughout history as the main liturgical language of Judaism (since the Second Temple period) and Samaritanism. Hebrew is the only Canaanite language still spoken today, and serves as the only truly successful example of a dead language that has been revived. Shira Rishony ( he, שירה ראשוני, born February 21, 1991) is an Israeli Olympic lightweight judoka. She competed at U48 kg (under 106 pounds). She competed for Israel at the 2016 Summer Olympics and at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Early and personal life Rishony was born in Holon, Israel, to a Jewish family. At the age of five, she was sent by her mother to learn ballet, despite her desire to learn judo. She is best known for her collection ''Awake in the Dark'', published in 2006. Early life and education Nayman was born in Johannesburg in South Africa to Jewish parents, Jacob "Jack" Nayman (1929 - 1987) and Doreen Shapiro (1932 - 2015). Shira Kammen is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. She received her degree in music from the University of California, Berkeley and studied vielle with Margriet Tindemans. She has performed and taught throughout the world and has played on several television and movie soundtracks, including "O", a modern high school-setting of Othello.
