Shilpakala Padak is an award instituted by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) to recognize ten established artists for their contributions to the fields of Bangladeshi arts, theater, music, dance, instrumental music, folk music and film and others. The academy is the principal state-sponsored national cultural center of Bangladesh as a statutory organization under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Shilpakala Academy
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy ( bn, শিল্পকলা একাডেমি; National Academy of Fine and Performing Arts) is the principal state-sponsored national cultural center of Bangladesh. History It is the national academy of fine and performing arts. The academy was established through an act of Parliament in 1974 as a statutory organization under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. But subsequently the Act of 1974 of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy was amended through a new act of Parliament in 1989. The academy is headed by a Director General. The overall direction for the functioning of the academy is provided by an Executive Council (Shilpakala Academy Parishad) headed by the Minister in charge of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. The Director General of the academy, Liaquat Ali, is responsible for its administration. He is also responsible for the implementation of decisions taken by the council. Nadira Begum
Nadira Begum (died 6 November 2023) was a Bangladeshi folk singer. She was awarded Shilpakala Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 2015. She was notable for songs like ''Kolo Kolo Cholo Cholo Nodi Kore Tolmolo''. Life and career Nadira Begum was born to A.K.M. Abdul Aziz, a classical and folk singer. She was enlisted as a radio artiste in 1960s. Begum served as the president of the Bhawaiya Academy. Begum died in Dhaka on 6 November 2023. SM Mohsin
S. M. Mohsin (30 January 1948 – 18 April 2021) was a Bangladeshi stage and television actor. He became an honorary fellow of the Bangla Academy in 2018. In 2020, he was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh for his contribution to acting. Education and career Mohsin originated from Tangail District. He completed his bachelor's in Bangla and journalism from the University of Dhaka. Mohsin worked as a faculty member of Drama and Dramatics Department at Jahangirnagar University, an acting director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and the first project director of National Theatre. Kangalini Sufia
Sufia Khatun (known as Kangalini Sufia; born 01 January 1961) is a Bangladeshi folk singer. Her real name is ''"Anita Halder"''. She performed as a playback singer for the films ''Darodi Shatru'', ''Agun'' and ''Raj Shinghashon''. Early life Sufia was born in 1948/49 in greater Faridpur to Khokon Halder and Tulu Halder. At the age of 14/15, she began singing at village functions. Around 1974, she converted to Islam and took on the name Sufia Khatun. Artist Mustafa Monwar christened her "Kangalini Sufia". Music Sufia mostly performs with a five-member troupe that includes Baul Jahangir, Baul Mander Fakir, Pushpo (Sufia's sister), Chumki Kangalini (Sufia's granddaughter) and Bilkis Banu. Sharmila Banerjee is a classical, folk and creative dancer, and choreographer from Bangladesh. . Education Banerjee is a graduate from the University of Dhaka in Management Studies. Mita Haque
Mita Haque (6 September 1962 – 11 April 2021) was a Bangladeshi Rabindra Sangeet singer. She had 14 solo musical albums released from India and 10 musical albums released in Bangladesh. She was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 2020 for her contributions to music. Career Haque's mentors were Sanjida Khatun and her paternal uncle Waheedul Haq. At the age of eleven, she participated at the International Children's Festival in Berlin. Later in 1976 she started taking formal music lessons from tabla player Mohammad Hossain Khan. Syed Jamil Ahmed is a Bangladeshi scholar, theatre director, and founding chair of the Department of Theatre and Music at the University of Dhaka. Kalidas Karmakar
Kalidas Karmakar (10 January 1946 – 18 October 2019) was a Bangladeshi artist. He specialized in viscosity printing. He was awarded Shilpakala Padak (2016) and the Ekushey Padak (2018) by the Government of Bangladesh for his contribution to fine arts. Early life Karmakar completed a two-year pre-degree course at Institute of Fine Arts at the University of Dhaka. In 1969, he later graduated from Government College of Art & Craft in Kolkata.
