The Shi Nai'an Literary Prize (施耐庵长篇叙事文学奖, abbreviated to 施耐庵文学奖) is awarded to a Chinese novel exhibiting an innovative style of narration. About the prize This prize is awarded by the People's Government of Xinghua city, in Jiangsu province. It is named after Shi Nai'an, who was said to be from Xinghua. The prize aims to encourage depth and development in novels written in Chinese, and to promote the status of Chinese novels in the world. The prize was first awarded in 2011, and is awarded every two years. Shi Nai'an
Shi Nai'an (, ca. 1296–1372) was a Chinese writer from the Yuan and early Ming periods. ''Shuihu zhuan'' (''Water Margin''), one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature, is traditionally attributed to him. There are few reliable sources for his biography, much less his literary activity. Biography Little is known about Shi. Traditionally, it was believed that he was a teacher of Luo Guanzhong, the editor or author of ''Romance of the Three Kingdoms'', another of the Four Great Classical Novels. The recent Chinese scholar Ge Liangyan writes that little is known about Luo, and about Shi even less. Late Ming and early Qing scholars claimed that Shi lived near the end of the Yuan dynasty and that he was a native of Hangzhou, but they may have been echoing each other or citing the conjectures that they did not endorse. The early 20th century scholar Lu Xun thought that the name "Shi Nai'an" might have been invented by composers of a later edition of the novel. ... Li Peifu
Li Peifu (; born October 1953) is a Chinese novelist best known for his novel ''The Book of Life'', which won him China's top literature prize: Mao Dun Literature Prize, in 2015. Li is a member of the Chinese Communist Party and the China Writers Association. He was selected as a National First-class Writer by the Chinese government, and enjoys the special subsidy of the State Council. Biography Li was born into a worker's family, in Xuchang, Henan, in October 1953. He started to publish works in 1978, after the Cultural Revolution. He graduated from Henan Radio and Television University in 1984, where he majored in Chinese language and literature. After graduation, he worked at Xuchang Municipal Bureau of Culture and later became president of the Henan Writers Association and Henan Literature and Art Association. Yan Geling
Geling Yan (; born 16 November 1958) is a Chinese-American author and screenwriter. Early life Yan was born in Shanghai, China in 1958. She is the second child of Yan Dunxun and Jia Lin. She has an elder brother Yan Geping (严歌平). Her father is an alumnus of the College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University. Yan began performing as a dancer at age 12. She served in the People's Liberation Army in Chengdu, during the Cultural Revolution in Tibet and later as a journalist in the Sino-Vietnamese War, achieving a rank equivalent to lieutenant colonel. Wang Anyi (born 6 March 1954) is a Chinese writer, vice-chair of the China Writers Association since 2006, and professor in Chinese Literature at Fudan University since 2004. Wang widely write novels, novellas, short stories and essays with diverse themes and topics. The majority of her works are set in Shanghai, where she lived and worked for the majority of her life. Wang also regularly writes about the countryside in Anhui, where she was " sent down" during the Cultural Revolution. Her works have been translated into English, German and French, and studied as zhiqing (educated youth), xungen (roots-searching), Haipai (Shanghai style), and dushi (urban, cosmopolitan) literature.
