Sherbrooke County (Province Of Canada Electoral District)
Sherbrooke County was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of the Province of Canada, in Canada East. It was located in the Eastern Townships, based on the rural areas around the town of Sherbrooke. The town was a separate electoral district, also named Sherbrooke. Sherbrooke County electoral district was created in 1841, based on the previous electoral district of the same name for the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada, and was represented by one member in the Legislative Assembly. It was abolished in 1853, and replaced by two new districts, a new Sherbrooke County and a new Wolfe County, which jointly sent one member to the Assembly. The new district was re-named Richmond and Wolfe in 1855. Boundaries Sherbrooke County electoral district was located in the Eastern Townships (now the Estrie administrative region). Legislative Assembly Of The Province Of Canada
The Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada was the lower house of the legislature for the Province of Canada, which consisted of the former provinces of Lower Canada, then known as Canada East and later the province of Quebec, and Upper Canada, then known as Canada West and later the province of Ontario. It was created by The Union Act of 1840. Canada East and Canada West each elected 42 members to the assembly. The upper house of the legislature was called the Legislative Council. The first session of parliament began in Kingston in Canada West in 1841. The second parliament and the first sessions of the third parliament were held in Montreal. On April 25, 1849, rioters protesting the Rebellion Losses Bill burned the parliament buildings. The remaining sessions of the third parliament were held in Toronto. East Hereford, Quebec
East Hereford is a municipality of about 260 people in southeastern Quebec, Canada, in Coaticook Regional County Municipality in the Estrie region. East Hereford is located just north of Beecher Falls, Vermont, and on the east side of East Hereford it is bordered by New Hampshire. Halls Stream, a south-flowing tributary of the Connecticut River, forms the eastern boundary of the municipality and the Canada–United States border. Dairy farming and lumber products are the main sources of income in the area. The nearby Mont Hereford has a developed trail network for the sport of mountain biking. Cookshire-Eaton, Quebec
Cookshire-Eaton is a city in the Estrie region of Quebec. It is the seat of Le Haut-Saint-François Regional County Municipality. Sherbrooke Airport is located there. As part of the 2000–2006 municipal reorganization in Quebec, on July 24, 2002 the city of Cookshire, the municipality of Newport and the township of Eaton were merged to form Cookshire-Eaton; prior to this, on April 25, 2001, the village of Sawyerville had merged with Eaton. After a 2004 referendum, however, Newport de-merged and was reconstituted as an independent municipality as of January 1, 2006. Nevertheless, Newport and Cookshire-Eaton both remain part of the urban agglomeration of Cookshire-Eaton. The community had a population of 5,171 in the Canada 2011 Census. Stoke is a municipality in Le Val-Saint-François in the Estrie region of Quebec in Canada. The Sentiers de l'Estrie hiking trails provide access to Mount Chapman, the highest peak of the Stoke Mountains, and Bald Peak, at an altitude of . History Stoke was first known in 1792 as Cowan's Clearance in memory of Moses Cowan, who surveyed the land for the British Crown. The Township was abandoned until 1837 due to a lack of interest, and passed into the hands of the British American Land Company. In 1856, thanks to the Stoke Road and the road that would soon lead to Sherbrooke, the territory was opened to settlement.
