William Irving (actor)
William Irving (17 May 1893 – 25 December 1943) was a German-born American film actor. Biography The burly character actor appeared in more than 220 films between 1916 and 1941, often as a "comic heavy" in the comedies of Our Gang or The Three Stooges. Irving also appeared as a cowardly German army cook in ''All Quiet on the Western Front'' (1930). He played mostly supporting roles in the silent era, but after the introduction of sound films his appearances got noticeably smaller and he was often uncredited. On Christmas Day, 1943, Irving was crossing the street at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles, California, when he was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. Max Asher, born Max Ascher, (May 5, 1885 – April 15, 1957) was an actor whose career spanned the early silent film era to talkies in the early 1930s. His career began on stage. He appeared in various comedic shorts. He was 5'9" and more than 200 pounds. In the 1920s he transitioned to character actor roles. He was born in Oakland. Asher was part of Universal Pictures' Joker Comedy unit with Gale Henry and Milburn Morante. Asher appeared in a title role with Henry in ''Lady Baffles and Detective Duck'' and 12 short films produced by Pat Powers in 1915. He died in Los Angeles. Mildred Harris (April 18, 1901 – July 20, 1944) was an American stage, film, and vaudeville actress during the early part of the 20th century. Harris began her career in the film industry as a child actress when she was 10 years old. She was also the first wife of Charlie Chaplin. Early life Harris was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on April 18, 1901. Her parents were telegraph operator Harry Harris and Anna Parsons Foote. Harris made her first screen appearance at the age of 10 in the 1912 Francis Ford (actor), Francis Ford and Thomas H. Ince-directed Western short ''The Post Telegrapher''. Frances Guihan (September 22, 1890 – December 21, 1951) was an American screenwriter. She worked on more than 40 films during her career, including a number of B westerns. Biography Beginnings Frances was born in East St. Louis, Illinois, the youngest daughter of Dennis Guihan and Catherine Fagan. She began her career working in a St. Louis office for $12 a week, writing scenarios at night (most of which were rejected). Hollywood career Her scenarios eventually attracted notice from people in high places, and soon she was in Hollywood commanding $70,000 a year. In those early years, she was known for writing (and, in one case, directing) scenarios for Japanese actor Sessue Hayakawa. She then transitioned into writing for actress and producer Ruth Roland. Over the course of her career, she also wrote at Balboa, Metro, and Haworth. She'd later work extensively on the Buck Jones Westerns.
