Bedfordshire County Cricket Club
Bedfordshire County Cricket Club is one of 20 Minor County clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Bedfordshire. The team is currently a member of the Minor Counties Championship Eastern Division and plays in the MCCA Knockout Trophy. Bedfordshire played List A matches occasionally from 1967 until 2005 but is not classified as a List A team. History Cricket had probably reached Bedfordshire by the end of the 17th century. The earliest reference to cricket in the county is a match in August 1741 at Woburn Park between a Bedfordshire XI and a combined Northants and Huntingdonshire XI. Woburn Cricket Club, under the leadership of the Duke of Bedford, became prominent in the 1740s and took part in a number of "great matches" against opponents such as London Cricket Club. Philip George Michael August (born 8 May 1949) is a former English cricketer. August was a left-handed batsman who fielded as a wicket-keeper. He was born in Enfield, Middlesex. August made his debut for Bedfordshire against Shropshire in the 1975 Minor Counties Championship. He played Minor counties cricket for Bedfordshire from 1975 to 1986, making 71 Minor Counties Championship appearances and 5 MCCA Knockout Trophy appearances. He made his List A debut against Somerset in the 1982 NatWest Trophy. In this match, he was not required to bat, with Somerset winning by 4 wickets. He made a further List A appearance against Gloucestershire in the 1985 NatWest Trophy. He scored 16 runs in this match, before being dismissed by Courtney Walsh. Surrey County Cricket Club (Surrey CCC) is a first-class club in county cricket, one of eighteen in the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Surrey, including areas that now form South London. Christopher Keith Bullen (born 5 November 1962) is a former English cricketer. Bullen was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm off break. He was born in Clapham, London and educated at Rutlish School which he attended from 1976 to 1982. An all-rounder, Bullen played for Surrey County Cricket Club, Bedfordshire County Cricket Club and the Surrey Cricket Board in a career which spanned from 1982 to 2002. Surrey Bullen made his first-class debut for Surrey against Oxford University in 1982. He didn't play another first-class match for Surrey until 1985, when he appeared against Cambridge University. Bullen played two Youth Test matches in 1982 for England Under-19s against West Indies Under-19s, with both Tests coming in August 1982, after his June debut for Surrey. Cambridge University Cricket Club
Cambridge University Cricket Club, first recorded in 1817, is the representative cricket club for students of the University of Cambridge. Depending on the circumstances of each individual match, the club has always been recognised as holding first-class status. The university played List A cricket in 1972 and 1974 only. It has not played top-level Twenty20 cricket. With some 1,200 members, home matches are played at Fenner's. The club has three men's teams (Blues, Crusaders and the Colleges XI) and one women's team which altogether play nearly 100 days of cricket each season. Patrick David Briggs (born 24 August 1940) is an English former cricketer, rugby player and school headmaster. Cricket Briggs was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium pace. He was born in Timperley, Altrincham, Cheshire. Briggs made his debut in county cricket for Cheshire against Staffordshire in the 1960 Minor Counties Championship. He played for Cheshire for a few seasons, before attending Cambridge University, where he made his first-class debut for Cambridge University Cricket Club against Yorkshire in 1963. He made 20 further first-class appearances for the university, the last of which came against the Marylebone Cricket Club in 1964. In his 21 first-class matches, he scored 533 runs at an average of 16.15, with a high score of 91. This score, one of two fifties he made for the university, came against Essex in 1963. The 1971 Gillette Cup was the ninth Gillette Cup, an English limited overs county cricket tournament. It was held between 15 May and 4 September 1971. The tournament was won by Lancashire County Cricket Club who defeated Kent County Cricket Club by 24 runs in the final at Lord's. Format The seventeen first-class counties, were joined by five Minor Counties: Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Lincolnshire, Northumberland and Staffordshire. Essex County Cricket Club
Essex County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Essex. Founded in 1876, the club had minor county status until 1894 when it was promoted to first-class status pending its entry into the County Championship in 1895, since then the team has played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England.
