Sharpie (boat)
Sharpies are a type of hard chined sailboat with a flat bottom, extremely shallow draft, centreboards and straight, flaring sides. They are believed to have originated in the New Haven, Connecticut region of Long Island Sound, United States. They were traditional fishing boats used for oystering, and later appeared in other areas. With centerboards and shallow balanced rudders they are well suited to sailing in shallow tidal waters. They came into use as a successor to the dugout log canoe and most likely were derived from the flatiron skiff. Sharpie is a brand of writing implements (mainly permanent markers) manufactured by Newell Brands, a public company headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Originally designating a single permanent marker, the Sharpie brand has been widely expanded and can now be found on a variety of previously unrelated permanent and non-permanent pens and markers formerly marketed under other brands. This article focuses on the legacy Sharpie permanent marker line. Sharpie markers are made with several tips, including ultra fine, extra fine, fine, brush, chisel, and retractable tips. Shar Pei
The Shar Pei (Cantonese: ''shā pèih'' or Mandarin: 沙皮 ''shā pí'') is a dog breed from southern China. Traditionally kept as a property guardian, the Shar Pei was driven to the brink of extinction in the 20th century. The breed is known in the West for its deep wrinkles, whilst a traditional less wrinkled form is maintained in Hong Kong. History There are no records indicating the origins of the Shar Pei, although it closely resembles effigies of an un-wrinkled type of guard dog kept in southern China during the Han dynasty; some believe the modern breed, along with the Chow Chow, descends from these dogs. The breed has been identified as a basal breed that predates the emergence of the modern breeds in the 19th century. The Sharpees
The Sharpees were an American Rhythm and blues, R&B group based in St. Louis. The group originated from a band led by guitarist and bandleader Benny Sharp. History The Sharpees were named after guitarist Benny Sharp. Sharp (1930 – 2019) was from Tupelo, Mississippi. He relocated to St. Louis in 1947 and formed his own band called Benny Sharp & the Zorros of Rhythm. At some point, the rest of the band consisted of "Bell Boy" Carter on drums, "Butter Cup" on saxophone, Mike Crowder on bass guitar, and Oliver Thomas on piano. In the 1950s, he earned the regarded as the next best bandleader behind Ike Turner in the Greater St. Louis, St. Louis area. The Bluffers
''The Bluffers'' is a 1986 children's cartoon series created by Frank Fehmers. The stories revolved around the inhabitants of the fictitious land of Bluffoonia and their ongoing struggle against the evil tyrant Clandestino and his plans to destroy the forest in which they live. The series was based on an idea by Gene Deitch, who also wrote the lyrics. Michael Jupp, who also created ''The Dreamstone'' and '' Bimble's Bucket'', was art director for the series and created the characters. The 12 m2 Sharpie was a type of Sharpie designed in 1931 by the Kröger Brothers in Warnemünde, Germany. The peak of the class was in the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. To this day, the original design has been preserved, and the class is sailed competitively in the UK, The Netherlands, Germany, and Portugal. Patrick Sharp
Patrick Sharp (born December 27, 1981) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played 15 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Philadelphia Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks and Dallas Stars. After his retirement as a player, Sharp joined NBC Sports as an studio analyst. He works with NBC Sports Chicago to provide color commentary for Blackhawks broadcasts. Sharp was also a member of the University of Vermont coaching staff in 2021. Sharp played collegiate hockey at the University of Vermont before he was drafted by the Flyers in 2001. He began his NHL career with the Flyers organization, but was traded to the Blackhawks in 2005. He became a three-time Stanley Cup champion with the Blackhawks in 2010, 2013 and 2015.
