Sharon Halford (born 27 November 1953) is a Falkland Islander, Falkland Islands politician who served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, Member of the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands, Legislative Assembly for the Camp constituency from 2009 Falkland Islands general election, 2009 until 2013 Falkland Islands general election, 2013. 1993 Falkland Islands General Election
The Falkland Islands general election of 1993 was held on Thursday 14 October 1993 to elect members to the Legislative Council. Eight Councillors were elected through universal suffrage using block voting, four from each constituency (Camp and Stanley). The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), previously known as the Empire Parliamentary Association, is an organisation which works to support good governance, democracy and human rights. In 1989 the patron of the CPA was the Head of the Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth II. 2013 Falkland Islands Sovereignty Referendum
A referendum on political status was held in the Falkland Islands on 10–11 March 2013. The Falkland Islanders were asked whether or not they supported the continuation of their status as an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom in view of Argentina's call for negotiations on the islands' sovereignty. On a turnout of 92%, 99.8% voted to remain a British territory, with only three votes against. Had the islanders rejected the continuation of their current status, a second referendum on possible alternatives would have been held. Jan Cheek
Janet Lynda Cheek (née Biggs; born 1948) is a Falkland Islands politician who served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Stanley constituency from 2009 to 2017. Cheek won re-election in 2013 but stepped down from the assembly at the 2017 election. She was previously a Member of the Legislative Council from 1997 to 2005. Jan Cheek was born in Stanley and spent much of her childhood in South Georgia. For her A-Levels she was awarded a government scholarship to a study at a grammar school in Dorset. Cheek worked as a Secondary School English teacher from 1969 until 1989. She then moved to Fortuna Ltd. where she rose to become co-owner and director until her retirement in 2008. Cheek married fellow islander John Cheek (1939–1996) in 1968, with whom she had two children, Miranda and Ros. She then became a grandmother to Hamish(2004), Flora(2005) and Tom(2011).
