Shapes And Sizes
Shapes and Sizes are a Canadian indie rock band from Victoria, British Columbia. There are four members—Nathan Gage, singers Caila Thompson-Hannant and Rory Seydel, and John Crellin. History Shapes and Sizes came together in Victoria and self-released their self-titled first album in early 2006. The band signed with New York record label Asthmatic Kitty and became the only Canadian band on its roster. The label reissued the band's album in July 2006. In January 2007, the band released a split 7-inch with The Weird Weeds as part of Asthmatic Kitty's new split 7-inch series, "Unusual Animals". The band's second full-length album, ''Split Lips, Winning Hips, A Shiner'', was released in May 2007. By 2009, Shapes and Sizes had moved to Montreal, and performed there as part of the 2009 Pop Montreal festival. The band released their third album ''Candle to Your Eyes'' in August 2010. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Asthmatic Kitty
Asthmatic Kitty is an American independent record label founded in 1999 by a community of musicians from Holland, Michigan led by Sufjan Stevens and his stepfather Lowell Brams. Some were Holland natives, and others had come to attend local colleges and universities. While the original Holland nucleus has dispersed across the country, the community has grown, with new artists and shared projects with other independent labels. The Library Catalog Music Series, inaugurated in 2009, showcases instrumental music by a wide variety of musicians, with eighteen albums in print as of February 2013, and more scheduled for release. Asthmatic Kitty is now based in Lander, Wyoming, Atlanta, Georgia and Brooklyn, New York. The label's name refers to Sara, a stray with feline asthma adopted by Lowell in 1994. Cecile Believe
Cecile Believe (formerly known as Mozart's Sister) is a solo project by Montreal-based Canadian musician Caila Thompson-Hannant. Biography Thompson-Hannant's musical beginnings are much accredited to the electropop introduced to her by her uncle. She went on to play guitar & synthesizer in the band Shapes & Sizes, which was on the Asthmatic Kitty label. She was also a member of Montreal-based bands Miracle Fortress and Think About Life. Thompson-Hannant independently released her first EP, ''Dear Fear'', in 2011 through Bandcamp. For the two years following this release, she garnered press attention through playing festivals such as SXSW and Pop Montreal. In February 2013 she released her second EP, ''Hello,'' through Merok Records. In June 2014 she announced a new album, titled ''Being'', for release on August 5 of that year and released the single "Enjoy".
