Shanu Lahiri
Shanu Lahiri (23 January 1928 – 1 February 2013) was a painter and art educator who belonged to one of the most prominent and culturally elevated families of Kolkata and a first-generation modernist who emerged post independence. She was one of Kolkata's most prominent public artists, often dubbed as "the city's First Lady of Public Art", undertaking extensive graffiti art drives across Kolkata to beautify the city and hide aggressive political sloganeering. Her paintings are housed in the Salar Jung Museum and the National Gallery of Modern Art. Hari Ambadas Gade
Hari Ambadas Gade (19 August 1917 – 16 December 2001) was an Indian artist. He is remembered as one of independent India's pioneering abstract expressionist painters. Early life and education Gade was born in 1917 at Talegaon Dashasar Village of District Amravati in Maharashtra, India. He studied science at the University of Nagpur where he enrolled in 1939 with the Nagpur School of Art. He taught at Jabalpur's Spencer Training College for five years before completing a Diploma and then a Masters in Art during 1949-50. He later enrolled for a year at the Central Institute of Education, New Delhi in 1958. Artistic career Gade began his career doing watercolour landscapes before moving on to oil canvases. As a Progressive Artist, his works reflect a break from the colonial values and styles that had conditioned art education in colonial India. Triveni Kala Sangam
Triveni Kala Sangam is an important cultural and arts complex and education centre in New Delhi. Founded in 1950, by Sundari K. Shridharani, who was also its Founding Director, Triveni, as it is commonly referred, contains four art galleries, a chamber theatre, outdoor theatre, open air sculpture gallery, besides this it runs its various arts, music and dance classes. Meera Mukherjee
Meera Mukherjee (1923–1998) was an Indian sculptor and writer, known for bringing modernity to the ancient Bengali sculpting art. She is known to have used innovative bronze casting techniques, improving the Dhokra method employing Lost-wax casting, which she learnt during her training days of the Bastar district, Bastar sculpting tradition of Chhattisgarh. She received the fourth highest civilian award of the Padma Shri from the Government of India in 1992 for her contributions to Arts. Karuna Shaha
Karuna Shaha (Birth name#Maiden and married names, née Ghosh; 1 January 1921 – 5 May 1996) was an Indian artist. She was among the first few women to study at the Government School of Art in Calcutta. Shaha is well known for her nude studies in various mediums. Early life and education Karuna was born on 1 January 1921 in Calcutta, Bengal Presidency (now Kolkata, West Bengal). From a very young age, she was trained in painting and singing at home by art and music tutors. One of her teachers in art was O. C. Gangoly, who informed her parents about the new opening for girls in Government School of Art (now the Government College of Art & Craft).
