Shannon O'Brien (Montana Politician)
Shannon O'Brien is an American educator and politician serving as a member of the Montana Senate from the 46th district. Elected in November 2020, she assumed office on January 4, 2021. Early life and education O'Brien was born in Portland, Oregon. Raised on Orcas Island, Washington, she graduated from Orcas Island High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Washington in 1991, a Master of Education from Gonzaga University, and an EdD from the University of Montana. Career From 1994 to 1998, O'Brien was a history teacher at Stanwood High School in Stanwood, Washington. She was later an administrator at the Early College for Native Youth. From 2013 to 2015, she was an education policy advisor for Governor Steve Bullock. She was the dean of the Missoula College–University of Montana from 2015 to 2017. Stanwood is a city in Snohomish County, Washington, Snohomish County, Washington (state), Washington, United States. The city is located north of Seattle, at the mouth of the Stillaguamish River near Camano Island. As of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, its population is 7,705. The Stanwood area has been home to the Stillaguamish people for thousands of years, who originally had a village at the present site of Stanwood. The modern city of Stanwood was later founded in 1866 as Centerville, adopting its current name in 1877 after the arrival of postmaster Daniel O. Pearson. Stephen Clark Bullock (born April 11, 1966) is an American politician and lawyer who served as the 24th governor of Montana from 2013 to 2021. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Born in Missoula, Montana, Bullock graduated from Claremont McKenna College and Columbia Law School. He began his career working as legal counsel to the Secretary of State of Montana before becoming the Executive Assistant Attorney General and acting Chief Deputy Attorney General of Montana. Bullock then entered private practice as a lawyer for Steptoe & Johnson. He was an adjunct professor at George Washington University Law School before opening his own law firm upon returning to Montana. Stanwood High School is a public high school located in the city of Stanwood, Washington about north of Seattle. There are 1,285 students between the 9th and 12th grades at Stanwood High School's campus. Athletics In athletics, Stanwood competes in the 3A competition level in the state of Washington. Teams participate in the WesCo athletic conference. The school nickname is the Spartans and the official colors are red, grey, and white. Building The high school opened in 1971, replacing the older Twin City High School, and was originally built with a "California-style" campus requiring access from the outside.
