Shams–Woj Rivalry
The Shams–Woj rivalry is a rivalry between sports reporters Shams Charania of ''The Athletic'' and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the two leading National Basketball Association (NBA) insiders. The rivalry has been propelled primarily by NBA fans and media since 2017, regarding which reporter is first to break NBA news on Twitter. Wojnarowski mentored Charania at Yahoo! Sports, and they became competitors after Wojnarowski left the company. Background In 2007, Wojnarowski joined Yahoo! Shams Charania ( ; born April 1, 1994) is an American sports reporter for ESPN, where he covers the NBA. He previously worked for '' The Athletic,'' Stadium and FanDuel TV. Early life Charania was born in Chicago to Pakistani Ismaili Muslim parents who had immigrated to the U.S. in the 1980s. He was raised in Wilmette, Illinois and attended New Trier High School.
