Severn (Caldicot Ward)
Severn is the name of an electoral ward in the town of Caldicot, Monmouthshire, Wales. The ward elects councillors to Caldicot Town Council and Monmouthshire County Council. Description The Severn ward covers the southeast of the Caldicot community as far as the M4 motorway and estuary of the River Severn. The ward includes the Deepwier area of the town and the residential areas off Mill Lane. Caldicot's West End ward lies to the west and the Portskewett county ward borders to the east. According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the Severn ward was 1,689. Town Council elections Severn is a community ward for elections to Caldicot Town Council. He was born Ernest Hubbard Smuts Severn, son of Dr. Clifford Brill Severn (1890-1981) and his South African wife Rachel Malherbe (1897-1984). His parents emigrated from South Africa to Los Angeles after he was born. Edmund Severn
Edmund Severn (December 10, 1862 – May 14, 1942) was an American composer and violinist. Born in England, in Nottingham, he moved to the United States at four, settling in Hartford, Connecticut and studying violin with his father; he later studied music in Berlin. There he studied the Joachim bowing technique. As a composer he wrote mainly orchestral music, as well as many pieces for his instrument, including a concerto; he also wrote three string quartets. He died in Melrose, Massachusetts. His most famous work is his "Polish Dance" for violin and piano, composed in 1918. Daniel DeWayne Severn (born June 8, 1958), nicknamed "The Beast", is an American professional wrestler, retired mixed martial artist and amateur wrestler. Clifford Severn (September 21, 1925 – June 4, 2014) was an American cricketer and child screen actor. Clifford Severn was the son of Dr. Clifford Brill Severn (1890-1981). His parents emigrated from South Africa to Los Angeles after he was born. He had seven siblings who were all child actors: Venetia Severn, Yvonne Severn, Raymond Severn, Ernest Severn, Christopher Severn, William Severn and Winston Severn. He died in Los Angeles in 2014 at age 88. Like his brothers Winston and Raymond, Clifford Severn played for the US national cricket team. Sir Claud Severn ( Chinese Translated Name: 施勳) (1869–1933) was a British colonial administrator. Severn joined the colonial civil service in British Malaya in 1894 and worked under the Governor of the Straits Settlements. In 1912, he became Colonial Secretary of Hong Kong and remained in the post until 1925. During this period, Severn governed Hong Kong twice as acting administrator during transition periods between Governors. Severn Teackle Wallis (September 8, 1816 – April 11, 1894) was an American lawyer and politician. Biography Severn Teackle Wallis graduated from the secular St. Mary's College in northwest inner Baltimore in 1832, and later studied law with William Wirt, attorney general, and with noted lawyer John Glenn. In 1837, Wallis was admitted to the bar. Wallis early developed a taste for literature and contributed to periodicals many articles of literary and historical criticism, also occasional verses. He became a proficient in Spanish literature and history and was elected a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of history of Madrid in 1843. Fort Severn, in present-day Annapolis, Maryland, was built in 1808 on the same site as an earlier American Revolutionary War fort of 1776. Although intended to guard Annapolis harbor from British attack during the War of 1812, it never saw action.
