Serbia National Rugby Sevens Team
The Serbia national rugby sevens team is controlled by Serbian rugby federation. In 2015 Serbia won second place in the European Championship B division and is qualified to compete in 2016 in A division of European Series. For the 2022 season, the team played in the Rugby Europe Sevens Conference 1. The Rugby Union of Serbia ( sr, Ragbi Savez Srbije, script=Latn) is the governing body for rugby union in Serbia. It was founded in 1954 and joined Rugby Europe (formerly FIRA-AER) in 1964. Sevens Grand Prix Series
The Rugby Europe Sevens are a series of rugby sevens tournaments held by Rugby Europe. It was formerly known as the FIRA-AER Sevens until 2013, and the Sevens Grand Prix Series until 2021. Only one annual tournament existed prior to 2011, when Rugby Europe created a series of tournaments, following the model of the World Rugby Sevens Series. The main division is known as the Rugby Europe Championship Series, formerly known the Grand Prix, followed by the Trophy Series, Conference 1, and Conference 2. The competitions use a promotion/relegation system. Format In the Grand Prix, twelve teams play in several tournaments each summer throughout Europe. Each tournament spans two days — the first day is a pool phase and the second day is a knockout phase. During the pool phase, the teams are divided into three pools of four teams each. 2015 Rugby Europe Men's Sevens Championships
The 2015 Rugby Europe Sevens Grand Prix Series was an Olympic qualification tournament for rugby sevens at the 2016 Summer Olympics which was held over three legs in the cities of Moscow, Lyon and Exeter. The top team qualified directly to the Olympic Games, whereas the runner-up qualified to the Final Olympic Qualification Tournament in 2016. France won the 2015 Rugby Europe Men's Sevens Championship, and qualified directly to the 2016 Summer Olympics. Spain finished second and qualified directly to the Final 2016 Men's Olympic Qualification Tournament, avoiding the Rugby Europe Repechage Tournament. Rugby union in Serbia is a minor but growing sport. The game was first played in Belgrade after the first World War and was revived again in the 1950s. Serbia currently has 12 rugby clubs and around 2,000 players. Governing body The Rugby Union of Serbia (Рагби Савез Србије) is the national governing body for the sport. It has been a member of World Rugby (formerly the IRB) since 1988. History Early years: 1918 to 1931 The first known Serbian rugby players were students at George Heriot's School in Edinburgh, Scotland during the First World War. On March 8, 1918, they played the first unofficial international game against students from a British Colonies and won by eight points to three in front of 10,000 spectators. Notable players were Toma Tomic from Leskovac, Dimitrije Dulkanovic from Cuprija and Danilo Pavlovic from Prokuplje.
