Serbia competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, People's Republic of China. The country returned under the name ''Serbia'' after 96 years, previously competing under the names ''Yugoslavia'' (1920–1988), ''Independent Olympic Participants'' (1992), ''Yugoslavia'' (1996–2002) and ''Serbia and Montenegro'' (2004–2006). The flag on the opening ceremony was held by shooter Jasna Šekarić, who has won five medals in her five previous Olympic appearances. The Olympic Committee of Serbia ( sr, / ) is the National Olympic Committee representing Serbia. It organizes the country's representatives at the Olympic Games and other multisport events. Vladimir Vujasinović ( sr-cyrl, Владимир Вујасиновић; ; born 14 August 1973) is a Serbian professional water polo head coach and former player. He currently serves as head coach of VK Novi Beograd. During his playing career, he won two Olympic bronze medals ( FR Yugoslavia team at 2000 Olympics and Serbia team at 2008 Olympics), an Olympic silver medal ( Serbia and Montenegro team at 2004 Olympics), and numerous other titles. Filip Filipović ( sr-Cyrl, Филип Филиповић; born 2 May 1987) is a Serbian water polo player widely considered to be one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. He was a member of the Serbia men's national water polo teams that won bronze medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and gold medals in 2016 and 2020. Nikola Rađen ( sr-cyr, Никола Рађен, ) (born 29 January 1985) is a Serbian water polo player who plays for Serbian club Crvena zvezda. Duško Pijetlović ( sr-cyr, Душко Пијетловић; 25 April 1985) is a Serbian water polo center forward for VK Novi Beograd. He was a member of the Serbia men's national water polo teams that won Olympic gold medals in 2016 and 2020, and bronze medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. Dejan Savić ( sr-cyr, Дејан Савић; born 24 April 1975) is a Serbian professional water polo coach and former player. He currently serves as head coach of the Serbia men's national water polo team and Crvena zvezda. Vanja Udovičić ( sr-Cyrl, Вања Удовичић, ; born 12 September 1982) is a Serbian politician and former professional water polo player who served as minister of youth and sports from 2013 to 2022. An independent politician, he is aligned with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
