Serb Democratic Party (Serbian Political Party, Founded 2011)
The Serb Democratic Party (SDS, sr-cyr, Српска демократска странка (СДС)) was a minor political party established in Serbia in 2011 and mostly active in the province of Vojvodina. The party won a single seat in the Assembly of Vojvodina in the 2016 provincial election on the list of the Serbian Progressive Party, after which time it became inactive. History and ideology According to the party's historical website, the SDS was founded in late August 2011 after a founding meeting in Novi Sad. It associated itself with the legacy of SDS in Croatia and the SDS in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and its stated purpose was to seek unity among the Serbian people and to end what it described as the dissolution of Serbia. Odžaci ( sr-cyrl, Оџаци, ; hu, Hódság) is a town and municipality located in the West Bačka District of the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia. The town of Odžaci has a population of 8,795 people, while the population of the municipality of Odžaci is 30,196 people (2011 census). Name The name ''Odžaci'' / Оџаци means "chimneys" in Serbian. Formerly, the settlement was also known as ''Odžak'' / Оџак ("chimney"). The Slavic/Serbian word "odžak" (or plural "odžaci") is a modification of the Turkish word "Ocak" (bearing the same pronunciation), meaning "fireplace". Serbian Patriotic Alliance
The Serbian Patriotic Alliance ( sr-cyrl, Српски патриотски савез, Srpski patriotski savez, SPAS; ) was a right-wing populist and national-conservative political party in Serbia. It was led by Aleksandar Šapić. It was founded as the "Movement of United Local Self-Governments" (PULS) in 2010, and in subsequent years, it served in several right-wing coalitions. Shortly after the 2018 Belgrade City Assembly election, it merged with the civic group "Aleksandar Šapić – Mayor" to form SPAS. It later participated in the 2020 parliamentary election, winning 3.83% of the popular vote and 11 seats in the National Assembly. SPAS served as a part of the SNS-led government until its dissolution. In early May 2021, SNS and SPAS began negotiating about SPAS merging into the Serbian Progressive Party, and on 26 May it was announced to the public that the party had been dissolved. Aleksandar Šapić
Aleksandar Šapić ( sr-cyrl, Александар Шапић; born 1 June 1978) is a Serbian politician, and former professional water polo player serving as mayor of Belgrade since 20 June 2022. A member and current vice-president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), Šapić had previously served as president of the New Belgrade municipality from 2012 to 2022. Šapić was previously a member of the Democratic Party (DS) until 2014, and he later led the Serbian Patriotic Alliance until the merger into SNS which occurred in May 2021. 2016 Serbian Local Elections
Local elections were held in most cities and municipalities of Serbia (excluding the disputed territory of Kosovo) on 24 April 2016, with repeat voting later taking place in some jurisdictions. The elections were held concurrently with the 2016 Serbian parliamentary election and the 2016 Vojvodina provincial election. Elections were not held for the City Assembly of Belgrade, as its members were elected on a different four-year cycle (although local assembly elections were held in the City of Belgrade's constituent municipalities). Jovan Rašković
Jovan Rašković ( sr-cyr, Јован Рашковић, ; 5 July 1929 – 28 July 1992) was a Croatian Serb psychiatrist, academic and politician. Early life Rašković was born in Knin in 1929. During World War II, after an Ustasha pogrom which resulted in the deaths of his relatives, he was exiled to Kistanje in Italian-occupied Dalmatia. He passed his secondary school exams in Šibenik, and graduated in Zagreb. He then studied electrical engineering and medicine at the University of Zagreb, where he obtained his diploma and a PhD from the university's medical school. Career In the 1960s, he served as director of Šibenik city hospital and later director of the medical center. He was one of the founders of the Medical Research Institute of Neurophysiology in Ljubljana. Zoran Subotić
Zoran Subotić ( sr-Cyrl, Зоран Суботић; born 27 April 1958) is a Serbian politician and former military figure. He has held a number of governmental roles throughout his career, including member of the National Assembly of Serbia (1993–97), deputy minister in the Government of Serbia (1998–2000), and member of the Assembly of Vojvodina (2016–20).
