"Send Me a Postcard" is a song written by Robbie van Leeuwen, and recorded by Shocking Blue in 1968. With lyrics in Swedish by Per Gessle, the song was recorded in 1980 by Gyllene Tider, as "Skicka ett vykort, älskling". Finnish version of the song "Kirjoita postikorttiin" was recorded by Muska as her debut single in 1971 and first hit song. A Turkish version of the song "Aşk Çiçeği" (Flower of Love) was released by the band '' Mavi Işıklar'' in 1971. "Send Me a Postcard" was covered by Loog on their 1995 album '' Meltdown House'', but was generally unknown in the US until Ladytron's Softcore Jukebox compilation was released in 2003. In 2014, it was re-released as a 7" single for Record Store Day. Shocking Blue
Shocking Blue was a Dutch rock band formed in 1967 in The Hague. It was part of the music movement in the Netherlands that was generally known by the name Nederbeat. The band had a number of hits throughout the counterculture movement during the 1960s and early 1970s, including "Send Me a Postcard" and "Venus", which became their biggest hit and reached number one on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and many other countries during 1969 and 1970. The band sold 13.5 million records by 1973 but disbanded in 1974. Together with Golden Earring they are considered the most successful Nederbeat-band, if the criterion is scoring hits abroad and especially in the United States. Robert Arthur Mould (born October 16, 1960) is an American musician, principally known for his work as guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter for alternative rock bands Hüsker Dü in the 1980s and Sugar in the 1990s. Early years Born in Malone, New York, Mould lived in several places, including the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, where he attended Macalester College. There, he formed Hüsker Dü in the late 1970s with drummer/singer Grant Hart and bass guitarist Greg Norton. Mould and Hart were the principal songwriters for Hüsker Dü, with Hart's higher-pitched vocals and Mould's baritone taking the lead in alternate songs. The album was released on February 8, 2019, and debuted at number 192 on the US ''Billboard'' 200. ''Softcore Jukebox'' is a compilation album put together by English electronic music band Ladytron. It was released on 7 October 2003 through Emperor Norton Records. It features different styles of music from rock to hip hop. It also includes two songs performed by Ladytron—the single remix of "Blue Jeans" renamed "Blue Jeans 2.0" and a cover of Tweet's "Oops Oh My". Background Regarding this compilation, Daniel Hunt said: "We chose an unmixed format as the majority of these songs would be murdered if beat-matched... some of them are completely impossible to do so, best to leave the tracks as nature intended. From around 40 speculative selections, 18 were cleared by the labels/artists concerned for the final release. The cover photo was taken at 3am while the band were staying in a Swedish chateau during the Hultsfred Festival".
