Robert Humphreys (politician)
Robert Humphreys (August 20, 1893December 31, 1977) was briefly a member of the United States Senate from Kentucky. After service in World War I Humphreys worked as a registered pharmacist in the retail drug business in Mayfield, Kentucky and later at Frankfort, Kentucky. He served in the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1920 and in the Kentucky Senate 1932-1936. He served as President Pro Tempore of the Kentucky Senate in 1934 and as clerk of three senate sessions 1936-1942. He served as Kentucky highway commissioner 1936-1940. During World War II he served as a captain in the Medical Corps, 1943-1945. He again served as state highway commissioner 1955-1956. Andrew Humphreys
Andrew Humphreys (March 30, 1821 – June 14, 1904) was a U.S. Representative from Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, who served in the Forty-fourth Congress. Prior to the American Civil War, Humphreys was as a member of the Indiana House of Representatives (1849 to 1852, and January 8 to March 9, 1857), and an Indian agent for Utah. In 1864 Humphreys was a defendant in a controversial trial by a military commission that convened on October 21 at Indianapolis, where he and three others were convicted of treason. Humphreys was sentenced to hard labor for the remainder of the war, but the sentence was modified three weeks later to allow for his release (Humphreys was required to remain within two specific townships in Greene County, and could not participate in any acts that opposed the war). At the end of the war, Humphreys resumed a career in politics, which included terms in Forty-fourth Congress (December 5, 1876 to March 3, 1877) and the Indiana Senate (1874 to 1876, 1878 ... Parry Wayne Humphreys
Parry Wayne Humphreys (1778February 12, 1839) was an American attorney, judge, and politician who represented Tennessee in the United States House of Representatives. After serving one term in the House, he later served eighteen years as a judge on the state judicial circuit. About 1836 Humphreys moved to Hernando, Mississippi, where he worked in banking for the remainder of his life. When established in 1809, Humphreys County, Tennessee was named for the judge. He had served on the Supreme Court of Tennessee from 1807 through 1809. Biography Humphreys was born in Staunton, Virginia. As a child, he moved with his family to Kentucky in 1789, part of a westward migration across the Appalachians after the American Revolutionary War. He later settled in Middle Tennessee.
