Selwyn United Football Club is an amateur football club based in Rolleston in the Selwyn region of New Zealand. Formed in 2013 following the merger of Ellesmere FC and Rolleston FC, they currently compete in the Southern League, one of three qualifying leagues for the New Zealand National League. The club also competes in the Chatham Cup, New Zealand's premier knockout tournaments for men. Rolleston, New Zealand
Rolleston ( mi, Roretana, Tauwharekākaho) is the seat and largest town in the Selwyn District, in the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island. It is located on the Canterbury Plains south-west of Christchurch, and is part of the wider Christchurch metropolitan area. The town has a population of making it New Zealand's 24th-largest urban area and the third-largest in Canterbury (behind Christchurch and Timaru). It was nicknamed the "Town of the Future" in the 1970s by Prime Minister Norman Kirk. The "Town of the Future" signage has since been removed from the entrances to Rolleston. 2016 Chatham Cup
The 2016 Chatham Cup was New Zealand's 89th annual knockout football competition. The 2016 competition had a preliminary round, a qualification round, and four rounds proper before quarter-finals, semi-finals, and a final. The final, played on 11 September 2016, was won for the first time, by Auckland's Birkenhead United, who beat Waitakere City 3–2 in extra time. The Jack Batty Memorial Trophy for man of the final was won by Birkenheard's Tom Davis. Cashmere Technical
Cashmere Technical is an association football club based in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was formed in early 2012 from the merger of two of the city's premier teams, Cashmere Wanderers and Woolston Technical. The two clubs had agreed to work together in early 2011, and the 2011 Christchurch earthquake which devastated their home city and resulted in the loss of many playing facilities hastened their merger into a combined side. Cashmere Technical play in the Mainland Premier League, and have won the Chatham Cup twice as Cashmere but also once as Christchurch Technical Old Boys. The 2021 Chatham Cup is New Zealand's 93rd annual knockout football competition. The competition returns for 2021 after being cancelled in 2020 due to Covid-19. It will have a preliminary round and four rounds proper before quarter-finals, semi-finals, and a final. Results Preliminary round Matches were played over the Anzac weekend of 23–26 April. The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) is an international organization dedicated to collecting statistics about association football. The foundation aims to build an exhaustive archive of football-related information from around the world. The Chatham Cup is New Zealand's premier knockout tournament in men's association football. It is held annually, with the final contested in September. The current champions of the Chatham Cup are 2022 winners Auckland City, who defeated Eastern Suburbs 1–0 in the final. History The Chatham Cup is contested by teams from throughout New Zealand, and has been held annually since 1923 with the exception of 1937 and 1941–44. Typically between 120 and 150 teams take part, with extra time and penalty shoot-outs used to decide matches which end in ties. New Zealand National League
The New Zealand Men's National League is a men's football league at the top of the New Zealand football league system. Founded in 2021, the New Zealand National League is the successor to the New Zealand Football Championship. The league will be contested by ten teams, with teams qualifying from their regional leagues. Four teams qualify from the Northern League, three qualify from the Central League, two qualify from the newly formed Southern League and the Wellington Phoenix Reserves are automatically given a spot each year. The regional leagues runs from March through to September, with each league having a varying number of games. The Championship phase runs after the completion of the regional phase with each team playing each other once, followed by a grand final.
