Esther Seligson
Esther Seligson (25 October 1941 – 8 February 2010) was a Mexican writer, poet, translator, and historian. She was an academic, with a wide range of interests including art, cultural history, Jewish philosophy, mythology, religion and theater. She published books, poems, short stories and translations. She won the Xavier Villaurrutia Prize and the Magda Donato Award for her literary contributions. Biography Esther Seligson was born 25 October 1941 in Mexico City, Mexico, to a family of Orthodox Jews. She wanted to be a dancer, but her parents were strongly opposed, so she began studying chemistry at the National Autonomous University of Mexico before changing her academic direction. Seligson studied Spanish and French Literature at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and earned a Master's in art history at the (Institute of High Culture). Gary Seligson
Gary Seligson (born September 14, 1960) is an American drum kit, drummer and percussion instrument, percussionist from West Orange, New Jersey. A graduate of the University of Hartford Hartt School, he is a drummer based in New York City. Seligson has played in many Broadway hits including ''Tarzan (musical), Tarzan'', ''Aida (musical), Aida'' and ''Wicked (musical), Wicked''. He was also the drummer for Broadway show ''Billy Elliot the Musical, Billy Elliot's'' three-year run, performing at the Imperial Theatre (Broadway), Imperial Theatre. Seligson performed at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre where he was the percussionist for the Broadway musical ''Motown: The Musical, Motown''. He has performed and/or recorded with various artists including: Elton John, Phil Collins, The Rascals, Idina Menzel and many more. Julius Seligson
Julius "Julie" Seligson (December 22, 1909, in New York City – October 13, 1987) was an American tennis player in the early part of the 20th century. Seligson was ranked as high as # 8 in USTA Singles in 1928. In 1928 he won the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship in singles. He was inducted into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Men’s Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame. Early and personal life Seligson was born in New York City, New York, and was Jewish, and experienced anti-Semitism in tennis. He attended Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School. In 1937 he married Gertrude "Gerry" Seligson (nee Goodman). They lived in Westport, Connecticut, from 1948 on. Tennis career As a junior he was the national boy's 18-and-under champion in 1925 and 1926. In 1927 he won the Eastern Grass Court Championships.
