Segment Tree
In computer science, the segment tree is a data structure used for storing information about Interval (mathematics), intervals or segments. It allows querying which of the stored segments contain a given point. A similar data structure is the interval tree. A segment tree for a set of ''n'' intervals uses Big O notation, ''O''(''n'' log ''n'') storage and can be built in ''O''(''n'' log ''n'') time. Segment trees support searching for all the intervals that contain a query point in time ''O''(log ''n'' + ''k''), ''k'' being the number of retrieved intervals or segments. Applications of the segment tree are in the areas of computational geometry, geographic information systems and machine learning. The segment tree can be generalized to higher dimension spaces. In computer science, a tree is a widely used abstract data type that represents a hierarchical tree structure with a set of connected nodes. Each node in the tree can be connected to many children (depending on the type of tree), but must be connected to exactly one parent, except for the ''root'' node, which has no parent (i.e., the root node as the top-most node in the tree hierarchy). Priority Search Tree
In computer science, a priority search tree is a tree data structure for storing points in two dimensions. It was originally introduced by Edward M. McCreight. It is effectively an extension of the priority queue with the purpose of improving the search time from O(''n'') to O(''s'' + log ''n'') time, where ''n'' is the number of points in the tree and ''s'' is the number of points returned by the search. Description The priority search tree is used to store a set of 2-dimensional points ordered by priority and by a key value. In computer science, a linked list is a linear collection of data elements whose order is not given by their physical placement in memory. Instead, each element points to the next. It is a data structure consisting of a collection of nodes which together represent a sequence. In its most basic form, each node contains data, and a reference (in other words, a ''link'') to the next node in the sequence. This structure allows for efficient insertion or removal of elements from any position in the sequence during iteration.
