Secret Of Deep Harbor
''The Secret of Deep Harbor'' is a 1961 film directed by Edward L. Cahn, and starring Ron Foster and Merry Anders. It was a remake by producer Edward Small of his earlier ''I Cover the Waterfront'' (1932). Plot Reporter Skip Hanlon (Ron Foster) is stuck in Deep Harbor, a bit frustrated about nothing happening there and stalled in his "career". He meets Janey Fowler (Merry Anders), whose father Milo (Barry Kelley) is the captain of a charter boat. The "syndicate" pays the captain to transport gangsters out of the U.S.. Then the mobster on Milo´s boat coldbloodedly kills one of his escape-passengers because he tricked the mafia. The body is drowned with an anchor of Milo´s. Hanlon´s best friend Barney (Norman Alden) has a salvage service and finds the anchor tied to the dead. Whereas Skip and Janey develop a relation she identifies the anchor as being Milo´s and thus Skip gets his scoop that brings him national attention and the contempt of Janey who feels betrayed. Merry Anders
Merry Anders (born Mary Helen Anderson; May 22, 1934 – October 28, 2012) was an American actress and model who appeared in a number of television programs and films from the 1950s until her retirement from the screen in 1972. Early life Anders was born in Chicago in 1934, the only child of Charles, a contractor, and Helen Anderson. Anders was of German, Irish and Swedish descent. In 1949, Anders and her mother visited Los Angeles for two weeks. They decided to remain in Los Angeles permanently while Charles Anderson remained in Chicago. While she was a student at John Burroughs Middle School, Anders met former actress Rita Leroy who encouraged her to begin a modeling career. While working as a junior model, Anders began studying acting at the Ben Bard Playhouse. It was there that a talent scout from 20th Century Fox spotted her and signed her to a film contract in 1951. Ralph Manza (December 1, 1921 – January 31, 2000) was an American character actor who made over 160 appearances in American film and television shows. Career A pre-med student at UC-Berkeley in the early 1940s, Manza was drafted into the United States Army during World War II. He was serving as a medic in the Army when he was assigned to an acting troupe. The diminutive Manza appeared on daytime television briefly in 1963 as an original cast member of the ABC-TV soap opera series ''General Hospital'', where he played the role of Mike Costello. Billie Bird Sellen (February 28, 1908 – November 27, 2002), better known professionally as Billie Bird, was an American actress and comedian. She played Margie in '' Dear John'' (1988–1992). Early life Born in Pocatello, Idaho, Bird was discovered at the age of eight while living at an orphanage. As a child, she worked in vaudeville, including the act known as the King Sisters, and later in theater/cabaret before moving on to television and films. Career She is credited with an appearance in a 1921 film ''Grass Widowers'', but it is not clear if this is accurate. Otherwise, she broke into films in 1950, later making a brief, uncredited appearance in ''The Odd Couple'' as a chambermaid.
