Sean O'Leary (rugby Union)
Sean O'Leary is a rugby union coach, and was the head coach of PRO Rugby team Denver Stampede in its only season in 2016. Previously, O'Leary served as head coach and director of rugby of the Notre Dame Rugby Football Club from 2007 to 2015. O"Leary held this full-time paid position, thanks to an alumni endowment fund. Under O'Leary's leadership, Notre Dame played in the Collegiate Rugby Championship — a tournament that is broadcast on NBC, gaining valuable exposure for the school's rugby program — as well as the Varsity Cup. O'Leary stepped down from the Notre Dame position in September 2015. Before Notre Dame, O'Leary was the head coach at Northeastern University and at Boston College High School. Denver Stampede
The Denver Stampede were an American rugby union team that played in the short lived PRO Rugby competition. The Stampede was one of the five teams that began play in PRO Rugby's 2016 inaugural season. The team played its home matches at the University of Denver's CIBER Field. The team was led by head coach Sean O'Leary and captain Pedrie Wannenburg. History Reports began circulating as early as November 2015 that Denver would host a PRO Rugby team when the competition's inaugural season kicked off in April 2016. PRO Rugby officially announced on February 26, 2016 that Denver would be the competition's fifth team. Denver's first officially announced player signing was South African international Pedrie Wannenburg. The Notre Dame Rugby Football Club is the official rugby football club at the University of Notre Dame. Collegiate Rugby Championship
The Collegiate Rugby Championship (CRC) is an annual college rugby sevens tournament. The CRC is the highest profile college rugby sevens competition in the United States, with the tournament broadcast live on NBC from 2010–2017, on ESPN News and ESPN3 from 2018–2019, The Rugby Network in 2021, and on CBS Sports from 2022. The CRC has capitalized on the surge in popularity of rugby following the 2009 announcement of the addition of rugby sevens to the Summer Olympics. Varsity Cup Championship
The Varsity Cup Championship was an American college rugby competition established in 2012 to serve as an invitational championship following the breakaway of several schools from Division 1-A Rugby. The Varsity Cup was organized by United World Sport, the organization which also ran the USA Sevens tournament and the Collegiate Rugby Championship. The 2014 Varsity Cup final was televised by NBC Sports on NBCSN. The Varsity Cup's ability to get onto television was seen as a boost to the Varsity Cup and to the rugby programs of the member schools. The development of the Varsity Cup post-season tournament created some controversy. The Varsity Cup Championship did not replace Division 1-A Rugby, but it was endorsed by USA Rugby.
