Sean Murray (field Hockey)
Sean Murray (born 5 May 1997) is an Irish field hockey player who plays as a midfielder for Belgian Hockey League club Gantoise and the Irish national team. He represented Ireland at the 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup. At club level, he was a member of the Lisnagarvey team that won the 2015–16 Men's Irish Hockey League title. Early years, family and education Murray was educated at Wallace High School and at Queen's University Belfast, where he gained a maths degree. His father, Mark Murray, is involved with Lisnagarvey Hockey Club in various roles including as a coach, and his older siblings, Laura and Stephen and younger brother Daniel are also field hockey players. 2017 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship
The 2017 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship was the 16th edition of the Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship, the biennial international men's field hockey championship of Europe organised by the EHF. It was held from 19 to 27 August 2017 in the Wagener Stadium in Amstelveen, Netherlands. The tournament also served as a qualifier for the 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup, with the winner qualifying. The Men's Hoofdklasse Hockey, currently known as the Tulp Hoofdklasse Men for sponsorship reasons, is the men's top division of field hockey in the Netherlands. The league ranks third in the European league ranking table. The league was established in 1973, and before the league existed the champions of the several district played in a championship pool to determine the national champion. The 2016–17 Euro Hockey League was the tenth season of the Euro Hockey League, Europe's premier club field hockey tournament organized by the EHF. A penalty shootout is a method used in field hockey to decide which team progresses to the next stage of a tournament (or wins the tournament) following a tied game. Two methods have been used: the original penalty stroke competition is a best-of-five penalty strokes with sudden death if scores were level after five strokes. An alternate penalty shoot-out competition was introduced at major tournaments in 2011.
