Sean McCarthy (Irish Footballer)
Sean McCarthy (22 January 1922 – 14 August 2006) was an Irish football player from County Cork who enjoyed considerable success with Cork United in the 1940s and was the League of Ireland top scorer on four occasions. Early life McCarthy was born in Dunmanway in West Cork in 1922 and began playing football for local side Clifton before being recruited by Cork United at the age of 18. Often referred to as "Big" Seanie to differentiate him from a smaller teammate of the same name, McCarthy was 5 foot 11 inches tall but in his early days especially was known for his slim build. Club career McCarthy scored on his debut in a 1–1 draw with Shamrock Rovers and helped Cork to the title in his first season (1940–41) as well as winning the FAI Cup after a replay with Waterford F.C.. McCarthy scored eleven league goals that season with a further three in the Cup, including a goal in the replayed final. Dunmanway
Dunmanway (, official Irish name: ) is a market town in County Cork, in the southwest of Ireland. It is the geographical centre of the region known as West Cork. It is the birthplace of Sam Maguire, an Irish Protestant republican, for whom the trophy of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship is named. There is disagreement over the meaning and origin of the town's name. Various sources list its meaning when translated from Irish as "the castle of the yellow river," "the castle on the little plain," "the fort of the gables (or pinnacles)," and "the fort of the yellow women." The town centre is built on and around two rivers, which are tributaries of the larger River Bandon, which passes by at the east end of the town. The town is twinned with Quéven, France. Dunmanway won the Irish Tidy Towns Competition in 1982. Bohemian Football Club ( ga, an Cumann Peile Bóihéamach), more commonly referred to as Bohemians or Bohs, is a professional football club from Dublin, Ireland. Munster Senior Cup (association Football)
The Munster Senior Cup is an association football cup competition organized by the Munster Football Association. Entrants include League of Ireland clubs such as Cork City, Cobh Ramblers and Waterford who are affiliated to the MFA, as well as clubs from the Munster Senior League. History Like the Munster Football Association itself, the Munster Senior Cup was originally inaugurated in 1901. It was initially dominated by British Army regimental teams. Among the early winners were the Royal Engineers, one of the pioneering teams of association football in England. They had played in the very first FA Cup Final in 1871–72 before winning it for the first time in 1875. During the First World War/Irish War of Independence era there were no competitions, but the cup was revived in 1922–23. League Of Ireland Shield
The League of Ireland Shield ( ga, Sciath Sraithe na hÉireann) is a defunct Irish football tournament which was introduced when the League of Ireland started in 1921 and ran uninterrupted until 1972. It was played before the league season began and was seen as the third most important trophy in Irish football, after the league and FAI Cup. The winners of the Shield gained entry to the following season's Inter-Cities Fairs Cup until 1971–72. It was played in a variety of formats; from complete round robin series to group stages followed by knock out games to complete knock out tournaments. It was replaced by the League of Ireland Cup in 1973, though returned for one season in 1983–84. The LOI Shield should not be confused with the League of Ireland First Division Shield, a competition that ran in the 1980s and 1990s and, as the name suggests, was confined to First Division clubs. Raich Carter
Horatio Stratton "Raich" Carter (21 December 1913 – 9 October 1994) was an English sportsman who played football for Sunderland, Derby County and Hull City, as well as representing England on thirteen occasions. He also played first-class cricket for Derbyshire in 1946. He later became a football manager. In 2013 he was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame. Background Carter was born at Hendon, Sunderland, the son of Robert Carter who played football for Port Vale, Fulham and Southampton. His Christian names come from his maternal grandfather and mother's maiden name respectively. He had an elder brother who died as a baby and 2 sisters. As a boy, Carter attended Hendon Board School. Cork Athletic
Cork Athletic Football Club was a former Irish football club based in Cork. They played in the League of Ireland between 1948 and 1957. They were the successor club of Cork United. When United quit the league in October 1948, Cork Athletic was immediately formed to take their place. Athletic won the league in 1950 and only lost the cup final against Transport after two replays. The following year they won a league and FAI Cup double after beating Shelbourne in a replay to win the cup. In 1953 they won the first all-Cork FAI Cup final, beating Evergreen United 2–1. Athletic also began the Cork tradition of fielding veteran English League players by recruiting Sunderland legend Raich Carter. The club eventually folded in 1957, due to financial problems. They were replaced in the League by Cork Hibernians.

Munster Senior League (association Football)
The Munster Senior League is an association football league organised by the Munster Football Association. It organises seven divisions as well as various cup competitions. Its Senior Division is a third level division in the Republic of Ireland football league system. Munster Senior League teams also compete in the Munster Senior Cup, the FAI Cup, the FAI Intermediate Cup and the FAI Junior Cup. In recent seasons the winners of the Senior Division have qualified to play in the League of Ireland Cup. Despite using the Munster name in its title, the vast majority of its member clubs are based in County Cork. Bob Wright (Scottish Footballer)
Robert Cooper Allen Wright (20 February 1913 – 27 May 1998) was a Scottish footballer who played as a left half. He made over 20 Football League appearances in the years before the Second World War. Career Wright played locally for Horden Colliery Welfare; he signed for Charlton Athletic in May 1937 for £100. He made 28 appearances for Charlton before the Second World War. Wright spent much of the war abroad but did make 47 wartime appearances for Charlton and 19 for Middlesbrough. Wright retired from playing in 1947. Wright became assistant manager to Jimmy Seed at Charlton Athletic in September 1947. He was appointed Bristol City manager in April 1949. He complained that he was not given a free hand by the Bristol City board of directors and resigned in June 1950. A maximum wage, also often called a wage ceiling, is a legal limit on how much income an individual can earn. It is a prescribed limitation which can be used to effect change in an economic structure, but its effects are unrelated to those of minimum wage laws used currently by some states to enforce minimum earnings.
