Sean L'Estrange
Sean Kimberley L'Estrange (born 19 September 1967) is a former Australian politician. He was the Member for the Western Australian Legislative Assembly seat of Churchlands from 2013 until 2021. He was the Minister for Finance; Minister for Mines and Petroleum; and Minister for Small Business in the Barnett-Liberal Government of Western Australia. In opposition he was the Shadow Treasurer and Shadow Minister for Emergency Services; Corrective Services; Defence Issues. He has also held the role of Manager of Opposition Business and other senior Shadow Ministerial portfolios such as Health, Mental Health, and Economic Development. His career background includes being a Senior Infantry Army Officer (Colonel) and Afghanistan veteran; a business leadership and management consultant; and Senior School Economics teacher and Head of Department. Electoral District Of Churchlands
Churchlands is a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Western Australia. Churchlands is named for the western suburb of Churchlands which falls within its borders, and was created at the 1994 redistribution, replacing the seat of Floreat which had existed since 1968. It was held for most of its history by Liz Constable, the independent former member for Floreat who had won the predecessor seat in a 1991 by-election. However, the seat's demographics suggested it was a strongly Liberal seat on paper, and it was taken for granted Constable would be succeeded by a Liberal once she retired. Constable retired at the 2013 election, and was succeeded as expected by Liberal Sean L'Estrange. L'Estrange held the seat until his unexpected defeat by Christine Tonkin in 2021. Bill Johnston (politician)
William Joseph Johnston (born 11 August 1962) is an Australian politician. He has been a Labor Party member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly since the 2008 state election, representing Cannington. While still a student Johnston spent time abroad as an American Field Service exchange student to Bandung, Indonesia. He is married to Kate Doust, the member for the South Metropolitan Region. Prior to entering Parliament, Johnston spent seven years as the state secretary of WA Labor and was a former senior official of the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association, the union representing retail and warehouse workers. Floreat was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia from 1968 to 1996. The district was based in the inner northwestern suburbs of Perth and was created in the 1966 redistribution. First contested at the 1968 state election, it was won by Liberal candidate Andrew Mensaros, who served as a minister in a number of portfolios under Sir Charles Court and Ray O'Connor from 1974 to 1983, and as shadow attorney-general amongst other responsibilities thereafter. The Western Australian Legislative Assembly, or lower house, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Western Australia, an Australian state.
