Seafarers' Assistance Programme
The East African Seafarers' Assistance Programme (SAP) is an independent organization for the welfare of seafarers and a piracy-monitoring group. The organisation was founded in 1996 to assist captured and other seafarers in need and to track, report the actions and effects of pirates off the coast of Africa, specifically, in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Somalia and Kenya where piracy has traditionally been a major problem. Piracy
Piracy is an act of robbery or criminal violence by ship or boat-borne attackers upon another ship or a coastal area, typically with the goal of stealing cargo and valuable goods, or taking hostages. Those who conduct acts of piracy are called pirates, and vessels used for piracy are called pirate ships. International Maritime Bureau
The International Maritime Bureau is a specialized department of the International Chamber of Commerce. The IMB's responsibilities lie in fighting crimes related to maritime trade and transportation, particularly piracy and commercial fraud, and in protecting the crews of ocean-going vessels.
