''Halimione portulacoides'' or sea purslane (2n=36) is a shrub found in Eurasia. Description The plant grows to in height. It is evergreen, and in northern temperate climates it flowers from July to September. The flowers are monoecious and are pollinated by wind. Taxonomy Botanical synonyms include ''Atriplex portulacoides'' L. and ''Obione portulacoides'' (L.) Moq. Recent phylogenetic research revealed that ''Halimione'' is a distinct genus and cannot be included in ''Atriplex''. Distribution and habitat ''Halimione portulacoides'' occurs at the sea shores of western and southern Europe, and from the Mediterranean Sea to western Asia. ''Honckenya peploides'', the sea sandwort (UK) or seaside sandplant (Canada), is the only species in the genus ''Honckenya'' of the plant family Caryophyllaceae. Other common names include sea chickweed, sea pimpernal, sea-beach sandwort, and sea purslane. The scientific name is often spelled "''Honkenya''", and is named after the German botanist Gerhard August Honckeny (or Honkeny). This plant has a circumboreal distribution.
