The Scottish Women's Football Annual Awards is an award ceremony hosted by Scottish Women's Football (SWF), the governing body for women's association football in Scotland. The inaugural award ceremony, sponsored by ''The Scottish Sun'', took place in 2009 at Hampden Park. Scottish Women's Football
Scottish Women's Football (SWF), formerly known as the Scottish Women’s Football Association (SWFA) between 1972 and 2001, is the governing body for women's association football in Scotland. It is an affiliated national association of the Scottish Football Association (SFA). In its history, it has run or organised the Scottish Women's Cup, the Scotland women's team, Scottish Women's Football League, Scottish Women's Premier League and other league divisions. History Scotland hosted the first organised games of women's football in 1881, and the sport became popular in the 1920s, attracting crowds of thousands. Women's football was banned from English FA grounds in 1921; the Scottish FA did not follow suit although it was not supportive. The leading team Rutherglen Ladies F.C. played from 1921 to 1939. Suzanne Mulvey
Suzanne Mulvey (née Malone; born 4 October 1984) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a forward and represented Scotland at the senior international level. Club career Mulvey started her playing career with Hibernian after moving up from their youth teams. In the 2005 summer season, Mulvey played in Iceland with ÍBV and scored three goals in ten Úrvalsdeild appearances. Her spell with Hibernian showcased her as one of the most promising young players in Scotland at the time and brought her to the attention of everyone in the game, however, Mulvey brought her time with Hibernian to an end when she moved to play for Hamilton. Gemma Fay
Gemma Fay (born 9 December 1981) is a Scottish former female international football goalkeeper and actress. She played in Iceland for Stjarnan. Fay made 203 appearances for the Scotland national team, becoming their most capped player. Career Fay made her senior Scotland debut against Czech Republic in May 1998 and Fay won 23 Scotland caps before the age of 19. She praised the contribution of her national goalkeeping coach, Jim Gallacher. In 2009, Fay took over the captain's armband from long-term skipper Julie Fleeting and then reached 100 caps against Canada at the Cyprus Cup in 2009. In December 2011 Fay and three Celtic women's team mates were approached about playing for Team GB at the 2012 Olympics. Pauline Hamill
Pauline Hamill (born 18 December 1971) is a Scottish former female international football forward who retired in 2011 while playing for Celtic in the Scottish Women's Premier League. A left–sided winger or forward, Hamill enjoyed a long career at club level with spells in Iceland and England. Hamill made her senior Scotland debut in 1992 and amassed 141 appearances. She was the first woman to reach 100 caps for Scotland and her total was the highest by any Scottish player, male or female, at the time of her retirement. Denise O'Sullivan (born 4 February 1994) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for the American club North Carolina Courage of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and the Republic of Ireland national team which she has represented 80 times. Megan Sneddon
Megan Burns (née Sneddon; born 9 September 1985) is a Scottish footballer who plays for Motherwell in the Scottish Women's Premier League. Sneddon made her senior Scotland debut aged 16 and amassed 130 appearances for the national team. Club career Sneddon spent five years with Kilmarnock, winning a treble in 2002 aged just 16. In July 2006, she joined Glasgow City. On 18 April 2010, she made her 100th appearance for the club in a 4–2 victory against Spartans. Jane Celestina Ross (born 18 September 1989) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a striker for Rangers in the Scottish Women's Premier League, and the Scotland national team. Club career Glasgow City Ross grew up on the Isle of Bute and after attending local coaching clinics, began her career at youth level with Paisley Saints Ladies. By the age of 16, she had already been called into the Scotland Women's under-19 squad. Shannon Lynn (born 22 October 1985) is a Canadian-born Scottish female international football goalkeeper who plays in the Swedish Damallsvenskan for Vittsjö GIK. Scottish Women's Premier League
The Scottish Women's Premier League (SWPL) is the highest level of league competition in women's football in Scotland. Its two divisions are SWPL 1 and SWPL 2. The league was formed when the Premier Division of the Scottish Women's Football League (SWFL) broke away to form the SWPL in 2002. SWPL 2 was introduced in 2016. The divisions contain (in the 2022–23 season) 12 clubs in SWPL 1 and eight in SWPL 2. Glasgow City have won 15 League championships, including 14 in succession from 2007 until 2021. The champions and runners-up of SWPL 1 qualify for the UEFA Women's Champions League. From 2002, the league was owned and managed by Scottish Women's Football.
