Scotland The Brave (concert)
''Scotland the Brave'' is a series of concerts celebrating Scottish music in Australia. Conducted by Colin Harper it was first held in Brisbane Concert Hall in 1998. It returned there in 1999 before moving to the Sydney Opera House later in the year and was later presented at other venues around Australia and internationally. A 2000 Sydney Opera House concert was broadcast nationally by the ABC. A video of that concert was released and by November 2001 had sold around 30,000 copies with the CD version selling 20,000 copies. Album In 2000 ABC Classics released an album of highlights recorded at the Sydney Opera House concert on 10 June 2000. Colin Harper (conductor)
Colin Harper AM MBE ( – 2004) was a Scottish Australian conductor and the founder of the Queensland Pops Orchestra. Harper was born in Fort George in Scotland. He joined the Army when he was 14 and later became the bandmaster of Gordon Highlander regiment. He moved to Australia in 1972 and became the music director of the Fifth Military District band in Perth. 1981 saw him move to Brisbane where in 1984 he founded the Queensland Pops Orchestra who put on series of The Best of British and Scotland the Brave concerts. Harper died in January 2004 from cancer. The 2000 ABC Classics album release of highlights of one of his Scotland the Brave concerts was nominated for the 2001 ARIA Award for Best Cast or Show Album. Sydney Opera House
The Sydney Opera House is a multi-venue performing arts centre in Sydney.
