The name of the IAU constellation Scorpius in modern Chinese is 天蝎座 (''tiān xiē zuò''). Scorpius is a zodiac constellation located in the Southern celestial hemisphere, where it sits near the center of the Milky Way, between Libra to the west and Sagittarius to the east. 18 Scorpii is a solitary star located at a distance of some from the Sun at the northern edge of the Scorpius constellation. It has an apparent visual magnitude of 5.5, which is bright enough to be seen with the naked eye outside of urban areas. Mu1 Scorpii (μ1 Scorpii, abbreviated Mu1 Sco, μ1 Sco) is a binary star system in the southern zodiac constellation of Scorpius. The combined apparent visual magnitude of the pair is about magnitude 3, making it one of the brighter members of Scorpius. Omicron Scorpii (ο Sco, ο Scorpii) is a star in the zodiac constellation of Scorpius. With an apparent visual magnitude of +4.57, it is visible to the naked eye. Parallax measurements indicate a distance of roughly 900 light years. It is located in the proximity of the Rho Ophiuchi dark cloud. Antares is the brightest star in the constellation of Scorpius. It has the Bayer designation α Scorpii, which is Latinised to Alpha Scorpii. Xi Scorpii
Xi Scorpii (ξ Sco) is a quintuple star system in the constellation Scorpius. It was assigned this designation by Bayer, although Ptolemy had catalogued the star in Libra. Flamsteed assigned it the designation 51 Librae, but this has fallen out of use since modern constellation boundaries assign the star to Scorpius. Nomenclature ξ Scorpii (Latinized to Xi Scorpii) is the star's Bayer designation.
