Scorched (play)
''Incendies'' is a 2003 play by Wajdi Mouawad. The play was translated into English as ''Scorched'' by Linda Gaboriau and was published in 2005 by Playwrights Canada Press. The play was based on parts of the life of the Lebanese communist militant Soha Bechara. Charlotte Facet notes that Mouawad met with Bechara before writing the play, but adds that some of the material is adapted from Randa Chahal Sabag's film work on and with Bechara, while noting that many of the characteristics of Bechara are divided among the main characters including Jeanne and Simon, rather than Nawal alone. Plot ''Incendies'' follows the journey of twins Jeanne (Janine in the English translation) and Simon, as they attempt to unravel the mystery of their mother's life. When Jeanne and Simon Marwan lose their mother, Nawal, they are instead left with a difficult mission that sends them on a journey to the Middle East in pursuit of their tangled roots and a long-lost brother. South Africa's Changing Climate
South is one of the cardinal directions or compass points. The direction is the opposite of north and is perpendicular to both east and west. Etymology The word ''south'' comes from Old English ''sūþ'', from earlier Proto-Germanic ''*sunþaz'' ("south"), possibly related to the same Proto-Indo-European root that the word ''sun'' derived from. Some languages describe south in the same way, from the fact that it is the direction of the sun at noon (in the Northern Hemisphere), like Latin meridies 'noon, south' (from medius 'middle' + dies 'day', cf English meridional), while others describe south as the right-hand side of the rising sun, like Biblical Hebrew תֵּימָן teiman 'south' from יָמִין yamin 'right', Aramaic תַּימנַא taymna from יָמִין yamin 'right' and Syriac ܬܰܝܡܢܳܐ taymna from ܝܰܡܝܺܢܳܐ yamina (hence the name of Yemen, the land to the south/right of the Levant). Navigation By convention, the ''bottom or down-facing sid ...

Scorched (Mark-Anthony Turnage & John Scofield Album)
''Scorched'' is the live recorded premiere of the (re-)composition by Mark-Anthony Turnage commissioned by the Society of Friends and Patrons of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2002. Turnage recomposed and orchestrated original compositions by jazz guitarist John Scofield for symphony orchestra and big band to which the title refers (SCOfield ORCHstratED). Scofield was part of the project together with John Patitucci on electric bass and Peter Erskine on drums. In 2004, it was nominated for a Grammy for "Best Classical Crossover Album". The work on ''Scorched'' is used in the film portrait of Turnage by Barrie Gavin (''Getting Scorched: Mark-Anthony Turnage'', DVD, 2009) Reception In a review for AllMusic, Rick Anderson wrote that Turnage's "orchestral elaborations on Scofield's original themes are surprisingly insightful and exciting... Turnage avoids the standard classical-jazz crossover error of trying to make an ensemble this large actually swing; instead, ...

Scorched (Overkill Album)
''Scorched'' is the twentieth studio album by American thrash metal band Overkill, released on April 14, 2023. It is the band's first studio album in four years, following ''The Wings of War'' (2019), the longest gap between studio albums for the band. Background Overkill had announced plans to work on the follow-up to ''The Wings of War'' as early as October 2019. Progress on the album had slowly been taking shape for more than two years, with bassist D.D. Verni having written nine songs for the album by April 2020, and the band began recording it in September. Drum tracks had been finished by that October, and mixing was handled by Colin Richardson, who had previously worked with Overkill in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Mastering was done by Maor Appelbaum. The release date of ''Scorched'' was postponed on numerous occasions, partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The album was intended to be released in April 2021, but it was soon pushed back to the summer or fall of 2021 ...

Scorched (comics)
Jessica Priest is a fictional character from the Spawn universe. Specifically, Priest serves as a substitute in the '' Spawn'' film for Chapel, Al Simmons's killer in the comic book. Priest was played by Melinda Clarke in the film. She would later become the second She-Spawn and leader of the team called Scorched. Publication history The character of Chapel (originally from the comic book series ''Youngblood'') could not be used in the ''Spawn'' movie because the rights to the character were owned by Rob Liefeld. Some of her background is revealed in '' Curse of the Spawn'' #12-14. Fictional history Jessica Priest works as an assassin for Spawn's nemesis Jason Wynn. Prior to shooting Simmons, she searches South America for a biogenetic weapon for her boss. She later appears in the Curse of Spawn series where she is revealed to have a hus ...
