Mushing is a sport or transport method powered by dogs. It includes carting, pulka, dog scootering, sled dog racing, skijoring, freighting, and weight pulling. More specifically, it implies the use of one or more dogs to pull a sled, most commonly a specialized type of dog sled on snow, or a rig on dry land. History The practice of using dogs to pull sleds dates back to at least 6000 BC. Remnants of sleds and harnesses has been found with canine remains in Siberia which carbon-dated to 7800–8000 years ago. Native American cultures also used dogs to pull loads. In 1534, Jacques Cartier discovered the Gaspé Peninsula and claimed the land in the name of Francis I of France. For the better part of a century the Iroquois and French clashed in a series of attacks and reprisals. For this reason, Samuel de Champlain arranged to have young French men live with the natives, to learn their language and customs and help the French adapt to life in North America. Freestyle Scootering
Freestyle scootering (also known as scootering or scooter riding) is an extreme sport that involves using kick scooters to perform freestyle tricks. This is done mainly in skateparks but also in urban environments on obstacles such as stairs, hand rails and curbs. Freestyle scootering gained popularity following the ''Razor craze'' in the early 2000s after the invention of the foldable aluminium scooter by Micro Mobility Systems in 1999. Since then the construction of pro scooters have progressed immensely, making it a big business with many brands solely focusing on creating trick scooters world wide. Early years After the first version of the foldable kick scooter, invented by Swiss banker Wim Ouboter (founder of Micro-Mobility Switzerland), hit the market in 1999, scooters became extremely popular amongst kids worldwide. ''Scootering'' is a British magazine published by the Morton's Media Group, and covers classic scooters, primarily Vespa and Lambretta, the people who ride them, and products of interest to scooterists. History and profile The first issue of ''Scootering'' was published by Myatt McFarlene in May 1985 with Mike Roberts as the editor. After Mike's death in 1987 Gareth Brown became editor. In 1989 Myatt McFarelne purchased ''Scooter Scene'' magazine from Stuart Lanning and made Lanning the editor of the combined magazines. Lanning eventually bought the title from Myatt Mcfarelene and continued to publish it himself as 'Scootering Publications' until 2002. Lanning sold the title to Mortons Media Group in January 2003 and former features writer Andy Gillard became editor. In January 2016 Gillard resigned after 18 years at Scootering magazine, 13 of those years as editor – the longest serving in the magazine's history.
