Gene Schwinger
Eugene Albert Schwinger (August 20, 1932 – January 16, 2020) was an American basketball player, known for his All-American college career at Rice University in the 1950s. A native of Houston, Texas, Schwinger committed to play for Rice on a full athletic scholarship in his junior year at John H. Reagan High School. He entered the school in the fall of 1950. Due to NCAA rules at the time, freshmen were ineligible to compete for varsity sports, so Schwinger's college basketball career began as a sophomore in 1951–52. His three years as a Rice Owl proved to be one for the record books. At the time of his graduation, the 6'6" forward held four school records (all since eclipsed): points and rebounds in a single season (604 and 344), and points and rebounds for a career (1,328 and 810). Julian Schwinger
Julian Seymour Schwinger (; February 12, 1918 – July 16, 1994) was a Nobel Prize winning American theoretical physicist. He is best known for his work on quantum electrodynamics (QED), in particular for developing a relativistically invariant perturbation theory, and for renormalizing QED to one loop order. Schwinger was a physics professor at several universities. Schwinger is recognized as one of the greatest physicists of the twentieth century, responsible for much of modern quantum field theory, including a variational approach, and the equations of motion for quantum fields. He developed the first electroweak model, and the first example of confinement in 1+1 dimensions. He is responsible for the theory of multiple neutrinos, Schwinger terms, and the theory of the spin-3/2 field. Schwinger Model
In physics, the Schwinger model, named after Julian Schwinger, is the model describing 1+1D (1 spatial dimension + time) '' Lorentzian'' quantum electrodynamics which includes electrons, coupled to photons. The model defines the usual QED Lagrangian : \mathcal = - \fracF_F^ + \bar (i \gamma^\mu D_\mu -m) \psi over a spacetime with one spatial dimension and one temporal dimension. Where F_ = \partial_\mu A_\nu - \partial_\nu A_\mu is the U(1) photon field strength, D_\mu = \partial_\mu - iA_\mu is the gauge covariant derivative, \psi is the fermion spinor, m is the fermion mass and \gamma^0, \gamma^1 form the two-dimensional representation of the Clifford algebra. This model exhibits confinement of the fermions and as such, is a toy model for QCD. (from German ' "to swing"), also known as Swiss wrestling (French ') and natively (and colloquially) as ' (Swiss German for "breeches-lifting"), is a style of folk wrestling native to Switzerland, more specifically the pre-alpine parts of German-speaking Switzerland. Wrestlers wear ' ("wrestling breeches") with belts that are used for taking holds. Throws and trips are common because the first person to pin his or her opponent's shoulders to the ground wins the bout. Schwingen is considered a "national sport" of Switzerland, alongside Hornussen and Steinstossen. Schwingen and Steinstossen were included as ''Nationalturnen'' ("national gymnastics") in the ''Eidgenössisches Turnfest'' at Lausanne in 1855.
