Schull
Schull or Skull ( ; or ''Scoil Mhuire'', meaning "Mary's School") is a town in County Cork, Ireland. Located on the southwest coast of Ireland in the municipal district of West Cork, the town is dominated by Mount Gabriel (407 m). It has a sheltered harbour, used for recreational boating. The area, on the peninsula leading to Mizen Head, is a tourist destination, and there are numerous holiday homes along the adjoining coast. Schull had a population of 700 in 2016. The town's secondary school, Schull Community College, houses one of the only planetariums in Ireland, along with a sailing school. Each year Schull harbour hosts the Fastnet International Schools Regatta. Name The first recorded place name for this area is "scol", from a Decretal Letter of Pope Innocent III in 1199 to the bishop of Cork confirming the rights of the bishop of Cork. Schull And Skibbereen Railway
The Schull and Skibbereen Railway (also known as the Schull and Skibbereen Tramway and Light Railway) was a minor narrow gauge railway in County Cork, Ireland. It opened in 1886 and closed in 1947. The track gauge was a narrow gauge. The formal name of the company was ''The West Carberry Tramways and Light Railways Company Ltd''. Route The S&S's main line was 15 ½ miles long. It was one of several in Ireland built under the terms of the Tramways Act 1883. It largely ran alongside roads, although a large 12-arched masonry viaduct was built over an inlet of Roaringwater Bay, and at times using gradients at steep as 1:30. The line linked the small harbour and village at Schull ''(in Irish: Scoil Mhuire)'' with the town of Skibbereen ''(An Sciobairín)''. Amanda Schull is an American actress and former professional ballet dancer. She is known for her lead role in the 2000 film '' Center Stage'', and for her recurring roles on the American television series ''One Tree Hill'' and '' Pretty Little Liars''. She starred in the Syfy television series ''12 Monkeys'', and played a recurring role on the USA television series '' Suits'' before being promoted to series regular for the show's eighth and ninth seasons. Early life Schull was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of Susan Schull, the current president of Ballet Hawaii, and is one of three children. Joseph Schull
Joseph Schull, OC (6 February 1906 – 19 May 1980) was a Canadian playwright and historian who wrote more than two dozen books and 200 plays for radio and television. Born in Watertown, South Dakota, he moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in 1913. He studied at the University of Saskatchewan and Queen's University. In the 1930s, he worked in advertising. During World War II, he was an Intelligence and Information Officer with the Royal Canadian Navy. After the war, he focused on his writing. Rebecca Anna Schull (née Wattenberg; born February 22, 1929) is an American stage, film and television actress, best known for her role as Fay Cochran in the NBC sitcom ''Wings'' (1990–1997). Life and career Schull was born in New York City, the daughter of Rachel Gutman and real estate attorney Judah Wattenberg. She was the elder sister of the late writer Ben J. Wattenberg, and is journalist Daniel Wattenberg's aunt. She was married to Gene Schull, with whom she had three children, from 1951 until his death in 2008. Schull studied acting in the United States and in Dublin, Ireland. Biography Early life Shull was born in Evanston, Illinois, the son of Zana Marie (née Brown), a court stenographer, and Ulysses Homer Shull, a manufacturing executive.
