''School of Rock'' is the soundtrack album of the School of Rock, film of the same title starring Jack Black. It was released on September 30, 2003. The film's director Richard Linklater scouted the country for talented 11-year-old musicians to play the rock music that features on the soundtrack and in the film. This is Miranda Cosgrove's music debut as she is featured with the ''School of Rock'' cast. Sammy James Jr. of the band The Mooney Suzuki penned the title track with screenwriter Mike White (filmmaker), Mike White, and the band backs up Black and the child musicians on the soundtrack recording of the song. Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Some of the earliest hard rock music was produced by the Kinks, the Who, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Cream, Vanilla Fudge, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. In the late 1960s, bands such as Blue Cheer, the Jeff Beck Group, Iron Butterfly, Led Zeppelin, Golden Earring, Steppenwolf and Deep Purple also produced hard rock. Substitute (The Who Song)
"Substitute" is a song by the English rock band The Who, written by Pete Townshend. Released in March 1966, the single reached number five in the UK and was later included on the compilation album '' Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy'' in 1971. In 2006, ''Pitchfork'' ranked "Substitute" at number 91 on the "200 Greatest Songs of the 1960s". Inspiration and writing "Substitute" was primarily inspired by the 1965 soul single "The Tracks of My Tears" by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. Pete Townshend became obsessed, particularly, with the line, "Although she may be cute/She's just a substitute." This had then led Townshend "to celebrate the word with a song all its own." The Darkness are a British rock band formed in Lowestoft, England. The band consists of Justin Hawkins (lead vocals, lead guitar), his brother Dan Hawkins (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Frankie Poullain (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Rufus Tiger Taylor (drums, backing vocals). The Darkness came to prominence with the release of their debut album, ''Permission to Land'', in 2003. The Black Keys
