Schoenoplectus Lacustris
''Schoenoplectus lacustris'', the lakeshore bulrush or common club-rush, is a species of club-rush (genus ''Schoenoplectus'') that grows in fresh water across Europe and some neighbouring areas. Description ''Schoenoplectus lacustris'' grows up to tall, with stems thick. Most of the leaves of ''S. lacustris'' are reduced to bladeless sheaths around the stem, but leaf blades up to long can be formed under water. The inflorescence appears at the top of the stem, and comprises 3–10 branches, each of which is up to long and may be again divided into shorter branches. The flowers are in the form of spikelets, each of which is long by wide. The stems of ''S. lacustris'' are round in cross-section, in contrast to the triquetrous (rounded-triangular) stems of other species in the genus, such as '' S. triqueter'' and '' S. pungens''. Ernst Gottlieb Von Steudel
Ernst Gottlieb von Steudel (30 May 1783 – 12 May 1856) was a German physician and an authority on poaceae, grasses. Biography Ernst Gottlieb von Steudel was born at Esslingen am Neckar in Baden-Württemberg. He was educated at the University of Tübingen, earning his medical doctorate in 1805. Shortly afterwards he settled into a medical practice in his hometown of Esslingen am Neckar, Esslingen and in 1826 became the chief state physician in what had become the Kingdom of Württemberg. In 1825, together with Christian Ferdinand Friedrich Hochstetter (1787-1860), he organized an organization in Esslingen known as Unio Itineraria (''Württembergischer botanische severein''). The purpose of this society was to send young botanists out into the world to discover and collect plants in all of their varieties thus promoting and expanding botanical studies and herbaria throughout the Kingdom and beyond. Mary Agnes Chase
Mary Agnes Chase (1869–1963) was an American botanist who specialized in agrostology, the study of grasses. Although lacking formal education past elementary school, Chase was able to rise through the ranks as a botanist at the United States Department of Agriculture, beginning as an illustrator under the tutelage of Albert Spear Hitchcock and eventually becoming a senior botanist, overseeing the USDA's Systematic Agrostology department. Chase conducted fieldwork abroad in Europe and South America and published several books, including the ''First Book of Grasses: The Structure of Grasses Explained for Beginners'', which was later translated into Spanish and Portuguese. Additionally, Chase was recognized for her work as an agrostologist with numerous awards, including a Certificate of Merit issued by the Botanical Society of America in 1956.
