Schenley Park (Panther Hollow) Bridge And The
Schenley Park () is a large municipal park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is located between the neighborhoods of Oakland, Greenfield, and Squirrel Hill. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district. In 2011, the park was named one of "America's Coolest City Parks" by ''Travel + Leisure''. The park is made up of donated by Mary Schenley in 1889 and another that the city subsequently purchased from her. Another were acquired at a later date, bringing the park's total size to , and making it the second largest municipal park in Pittsburgh, behind Frick Park. The Cathedral of Learning is a 42-story skyscraper that serves as the centerpiece of the University of Pittsburgh's (Pitt) main campus in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Standing at , the 42-story Late Gothic Revival Cathedral is the tallest educational building in the Western Hemisphere and the second-tallest university building (fifth- tallest educationally-purposed building) in the world, after the main building of Moscow State University. It is also the second-tallest gothic-styled building in the world, after the Woolworth Building in Manhattan. Panther Hollow (valley)
Panther Hollow is a wooded valley in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, that runs approximately west to east through Schenley Park. It begins at Boundary Street in Junction Hollow and ends near Hobart Street in Squirrel Hill. Curiously, the neighborhood of Panther Hollow in Central Oakland is not actually in the valley of Panther Hollow itself, but rather in Junction Hollow. The hollow features the man-made Panther Hollow Lake, on the east end of which is the confluence of Panther Hollow Run (which generally follows the valley) and Phipps Run. Created in the 1880s, Panther Hollow Lake was once the center of a busy picnic and recreational area that included a boat house adjacent to the lake from which couples could rent boats for an afternoon. The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is a vintage motor sports car race and 10-day Motorsport Festival that takes place annually in mid-July in Schenley Park located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States.
