The Saudi Arabia women's national basketball team represents Saudi Arabia in international competitions and friendly matches. It is managed by the Saudi Basketball Federation. Saudi Arabia made the international headlines after it sent a team to the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games where its team won the gold medal. The Saudi Arabian Basketball Federation ( ar, الاتحاد العربي السعودي لكرة السلة) is the governing body of basketball in Saudi Arabia. The federation founded in 1964, represents basketball with public authorities as well as with national and international sports organizations and as such with Saudi Arabia in international competitions. It also defends the moral and material interests of Basketball in Saudi Arabia. It is affiliated with FIBA and FIBA Asia. The FIBA Women's Asia Cup is an international basketball tournament which takes place every two years for women's national teams from FIBA Asia, and since 2017 FIBA Oceania. It was known as the Asian Basketball Confederation (ABC) Championship until 2001, and the FIBA Asia Women's Championship until 2015. 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games
The 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games ( ar, 2019 الألعاب الأولمبية الصيفية الخاصة بألعاب العالم الصيفية, ) were a special olympics multi-sport event for athletes with intellectual disabilities in the tradition of the Special Olympics movement. It was held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from March 14–21, 2019. ESPN offered international coverage of the games.
