Saudi Arabia competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, from 4 to 20 February 2022. This marked the country's Winter Olympics debut. Saudi Arabia's team consisted of one male alpine skier, Fayik Abdi. Abdi was the country's flagbearer during the opening ceremony. Meanwhile a volunteer was the flagbearer during the closing ceremony. Competitors The following is the list of number of competitors participating at the Games per sport/discipline. Background In early 2021, the Saudi Winter Sports Federation put out a call looking for skiers and snowboarders that could potentially compete for the country at the Olympics. Approximately 100 applications were received worldwide (including those with Saudi heritage overseas). Eight athletes were selected to undergo further training in the aim to qualify for the Olympics. Saudi Olympic & Paralympic Committee (IOC code: KSA; ar, اللجنة الأولمبية السعودية وأولمبياد المعاقين) is the National Olympic Committee and the National Paralympic Committee representing Saudi Arabia. Until the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Saudi Arabia was one of three countries that had never had a female competitor at the games. The other two countries, Qatar and Brunei, also selected women to compete for the first time. The men's giant slalom competition of the Beijing 2022 Olympics was held on 13 February, on " Ice River" course at the Yanqing National Alpine Ski Centre in Yanqing District. Marco Odermatt of Switzerland won the event. Žan Kranjec of Slovenia won the silver medal, and Mathieu Faivre of France bronze. For all of them, they got their first Olympic medals. The ''Fédération internationale de ski et de snowboard'' (FIS; en, International Ski and Snowboard Federation) is the highest international governing body for skiing and snowboarding. Alpine skiing at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held at the Yanqing National Alpine Ski Centre in Yanqing District, China. The competitions took place from 6 to 20 February 2022. Speed events were held on "Rock" course and technical events on "Ice River" course, for both men and women. Team event was held on "Rainbow." A total of 306 quota spots (153 per gender) were distributed to the alpine skiing, a reduction of 14 from 2018. Eleven events were contested: five for men, five for women, and one mixed (team). Qualification A maximum of 306 quota spots were available to athletes to compete at the games.
