Saudi Arabia's National Basketball Team
The Saudi Arabia national basketball team is the national basketball team representing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is administered by the Saudi Arabian Basketball Federation. () Its biggest success has been the Bronze medal at the 1999 Asian Championship. The team last qualified for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup as host. The Saudi Arabian Basketball Federation () is the governing body of basketball in Saudi Arabia. The federation founded in 1964, represents basketball with public authorities as well as with national and international sports organizations and as such with Saudi Arabia in international competitions. It also defends the moral and material interests of Basketball in Saudi Arabia. It is affiliated with FIBA and FIBA Asia. Basketball at the 1984 Summer Olympics was the eleventh appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. It took place at The Forum in Inglewood, California, United States from July 29 to August 10. The United States won the gold medal in both events, with the women's team's victory marking their first-ever gold medal. Due to the boycott, the Soviet Union and Hungary withdrew from the tournament. The former, having already qualified for both events was replaced by West Germany in the men's competition, while both nations' women's teams were replaced by Australia and South Korea. The 1954 FIBA Basketball World Cup, FIBA World Championship (also called the 2nd World Basketball Championship – 1954) was the international basketball world championship for men's national teams. It was held by the International Basketball Federation, from 23 October to 5 November 1954. Brazil hosted the event at Ginásio do Maracanãzinho in Rio de Janeiro. The 1950 FIBA World Championship, also called the 1st World Basketball Championship – 1950, was the inaugural edition of the FIBA Basketball World Cup, World Cup basketball tournament for men's national teams. It was held by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), from 22 October to 3 November 1950. Basketball at the 2016 Summer Olympics was the nineteenth appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. It took place at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and was held from 6 August to 21 August 2016.
