Saturday Night (1950 Film)
''Saturday Night'' (Spanish: ''La noche del sábado'') is a 1950 Spanish drama film directed by Rafael Gil and starring María Félix, Rafael Durán and José María Seoane.Mira p.147 It is a film adaptation of the 1918 play of the same name, Saturday Night: A Novel For The Stage In Five Tableaux by playwright Jacinto Benavente. The film's sets were designed by Enrique Alarcón. Plot In Rome, the sculptor Leonardo Alfieri hires a beautiful dancer to make a statue that he hopes will be his masterpiece. The work causes a sensation throughout the country and draws the attention of Prince Florencio, heir to the Preslavian throne. Finally, the girl, dazzled by the possibility of leaving poverty behind, leaves everything, including her own daughter, to go with the prince. Rafael Gil
Rafael Gil (22 May 1913 – 10 July 1986) was a Spanish film director and screenwriter. His film ''La guerra de Dios'' (1953) won the Bronze Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1953 and also won best film and best director at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. His film ''La noche del sábado'' (1950) was nominated for the Gold Lion at the 1950 Venice Film Festival and his film ''El beso de Judas'' (1954) was also nominated for the Gold Lion at the 1954 festival in Venice. His film ''Let's Make the Impossible!'' (1958) was nominated for the Golden Berlin Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. He has won nine prizes of the National Syndicate of Spectacle of Spain. Gil was a prominent director of the Franco era. José Vivó (19 May 1917 – 26 July 1989) was a Spanish television, theater and film actor. Life He studied engineering, but the Spanish Civil War forced him to leave his studies unfinished. He fought on the side of the Republican army and at the end of the conflict, he devoted himself fully to the world of acting. His career began in the theater in 1946.
