''Sarcomelicope'' is a genus of about ten species of flowering plants in the family Rutaceae that are endemic to the South Pacific. Description Plants in the genus ''Sarcomelicope'' are shrubs to medium-sized trees with simple leaves and flowers arranged in panicles in leaf axils, separate male and female flowers with four sepals and four petals that are free from each other and overlapping at the base. Male flowers have eight stamens that are free from each other and female flowers have four carpels that are fused, at least at the base with two ovules in each carpel. The fruit is a drupe of four carpels, partly or completely fused, and the seeds are dark brown to black. Thomas Gordon Hartley (9 January 1931 in Beaumont, Texas – 8 March 2016 in Canberra, Australia) was an American botanist. Biography In 1955 Hartley graduated in botany with the academic degree Bachelor of Science at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. In 1957 he received his Master of Science and in 1962 his Ph.D. degree at the University of Iowa. From 1961 to 1965 he led an expedition of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation to New Guinea for the study of phytochemicals. From 1965 to 1971 he was associative curator at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1971, he became a Senior Research Scientist at CSIRO Plant Industry, Canberra, Australia. Thomas Gordon Hartley became notable for his study on the family Rutaceae. Albert Charles Smith (April 5, 1906 – May 23, 1999) was an American botanist who served as director of the National Museum of Natural History and Arnold Arboretum and was the former president of the American Society of Plant Taxonomists. Life Smith was born on April 5, 1906, in Springfield, Massachusetts. He received his bachelor's degree from Columbia University in 1926 and his PhD in 1933. In 1928, he became a staff member of the New York Botanical Garden and made his first tropical trips to Colombia, Peru, and Brazil from 1926 to 1929. Asa Gray (November 18, 1810 – January 30, 1888) is considered the most important American botanist of the 19th century. His ''Darwiniana'' was considered an important explanation of how religion and science were not necessarily mutually exclusive. Gray was adamant that a genetic connection must exist between all members of a species. He was also strongly opposed to the ideas of hybridization within one generation and special creation in the sense of its not allowing for evolution. Peter Shaw Green
Peter Shaw Green (11 September 1920–17 August 2009) was an English botanist. Early life Green was born in Rochester, Kent, the youngest son of John and Elizabeth (née Hainsworth) Green, his father a civilian engineer with the Royal Air Force. He was educated at Taunton School, before studying botany at King's College London. His studies were interrupted by the Second World War, in which he served as an Adjutant (Captain) in the Northumberland Fusiliers, initially training recruits to shoot, but later joining his regiment in Italy, where he contracted typhoid. Upon recovery, he was despatched to Greece. In 1946, while still in uniform, he married Winifred Brown, whom he had met at King's College before the war. After demobilization, he returned to his studies at King's College.
